QUETTA: Two policemen were killed and eight others injured in a bomb attack on a police van near the Benazir overhead bridge on Spiny Road here on Tuesday.

The injured included four policemen and four civilians.

According to police officials, an improvised explosive device was planted by assailants near the bridge and detonated when the police van was passing through the area. Personnel of the Frontier Corps and police rushed to the area and shifted the injured to the Civil Hospital, where doctors said the condition of two of the injured policemen was serious.

The dead policemen were identified as Abdullah and Arshad Ali.

“The police van was the target,” said a senior police officer, adding that the police van was badly damaged while windowpanes of nearby buildings were shattered.

The injured police personnel were identified as Hanif, Waqar, Ashraf and Syed Mohammad and the civilians as Naqibullah, Mudassar (child), Waqas and Abdul Bari.
