MULTAN: Ali Haider Gilani, the son of former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, reached his hometown Multan on Tuesday for the first time after being freed from captivity.

He was accompanied by his father and other family and party members on the occasion.

Ali Gilani was freed from kidnappers during a dramatic military rescue operation in Afghanistan by US and Afghan security forces. He was later flown to Pakistan where he reunited with his family after three year of captivity.

Hundreds of supporters gathered outside the Gilani residence in Multan to welcome the 30-year-old. Rose petals were showered on the vehicle carrying Ali Haider, who stepped out and waved to supporters.
