QUETTA: Benazir Income Support Programme Chairperson Marvi Memon said on Thursday that the survey conducted by the social safety net in Balochistan in the past was not up to the mark and it would be ensured in the new survey that the province got equity so that maximum number of poor women could benefit from the BISP.

Speaking to members of local bodies in Qila Saifullah, she said it would be possible only if far-flung areas of Balochistan were covered in the new survey.

“Balochistan is our priority and government would make sure that no deserving woman in Balochistan remains deprived of financial assistance provided by the BISP,” Ms Memon said.

In a bid to understand the problems being faced by women, the BISP chief along with provincial minister Nawab Ayaz Khan Jogezai and respective local government office-bearers visited the offices of Union Council Sadar.

Talking to a group of women, she said that being the directory of the poor the updated National Socio-economic Registry would be an asset. The document would contribute to effective policymaking and better targeted programmes.

She said the BISP would initiate the new survey by the middle of this year in Mirpur (AJK), Charsadda, Lakki Marwat, Haripur, Chakwal, Layyah, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur, Jacobabad, Sukkur, Thatta, Gilgit, Qila Saifullah, Kech, Nasirabad and Mohmand Agency.
