SAHIWAL, Nov 18: A robber was shot dead while another injured in an encounter with police here early on Tuesday morning.

Reports said two armed men stopped a shopkeeper, Yousaf, who was on his way back home by his motorcycle (SLG-1708). They drove away with his two-wheeler and the shopkeeper informed the Farid Town police station SHO and Elite Force patrol party, which chased the suspects.

Seeing police, the two robbers opened fire on them, which was returned. One of the robbers identified as Atif was killed and his accomplice, Farooq, was injured.

The police arrested Farooq and recovered the motorcycle and two pistols from them. A case has been registered against them.

BOYCOTT: Students from various schools and colleges on Tuesday boycotted their classes and took out procession to protest killing of a commerce college pupil in a road accident.

They blocked traffic on entry points to the district for more than two hours by burning tyres, demanding arrest of the bus driver who was responsible for the killing of Muhammad Shafiq.

They dispersed on the assurance of the district administration officials that the driver would be arrested at the earliest.

Shafiq, a student of the Government Commerce College, was run over and killed by a rashly-driven bus (SL-2420) when he was standing at the Stadium Chowk to catch a transport.

KILLED: A toll collector was run over and killed by a truck on the Sahiwal-Noorshah Road at Maal Mandi Chowk.

According to reports, Maqsood Ahmad was chasing a truck by his motorcycle and was run over by it.

Police have registered a case against the absconding truck driver.
