ISLAMABAD: The Mutahidda Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Monday informed the Supreme Court, while submitting a list of 171 missing workers, that 100 of their workers have gone missing during the current year.

MQM alleged Rangers have picked up most of the workers who have gone missing during the year.

The list was submitted to the court by MQM Senator Mian Attiqui on behalf of the party and aggrieved families.

“Out of 100 party workers who went went missing in 2016, 90 per cent have been picked up from their houses by Rangers,” said Attiqui.

He added most were picked from their residences.

“We have lodged FIRs for all our missing party workers in respective police station of Karachi.”

The MQM senator added the list does not include the names of party workers who have been presented before a court of law.

“The court will club our list with the original missing persons’ case,” stated the senator.

The list of missing party workers contains all the relevant information including their identities, residential address and place from they were picked up, added Attiqui.

In April, MQM held a protest demonstration near the Chief Minister House against what it called the enforced disappearance of its workers.

Carrying placards and portraits of their fathers, sons or husbands, the participants, including women and children, called for “immediate release” of their loved ones.

Chief Justice Anwer Zaheer Jamali, while hearing missing persons’ case on March 18, had directed the MQM to submit a list of its missing persons to pursue the case.

No one can feel the pain and agony the families of missing persons going through. MQM workers have been picked up by agencies and being denied to present before the courts. People of Pakistan should raise voice against such cruelty. The dark nights no matter how dark are must be over. Muhajirs are seeing how they are being deprived.

Shame . Making Karachi the second Balochistan due to missing person.

Haider May 02, 2016 05:24pm

The question is why MQM is targeted by the LEAs? What about other parties and workers? Are they pious and innocent? The operation against a popular public party and denying its mandate is aggravating frustration among Muhajjirs which in turn may create feelings unfavorable to Pakistan. Please try to understand the situation before its too late.

AMjad May 02, 2016 05:37pm

@Concerned Pakistani No they are above law. They are law. Period.

Farooq May 02, 2016 05:53pm

A very biased and MQM specific operation may not bring the desired results.

Fareed KN May 02, 2016 06:29pm

Here is a situation which no one but MQM alone should be blamed. Party has been led by a self centered Altaf Bhai who is more interested in self preservation, worldly comforts available in London. Why is n't he back in the country when MQM is disintegrating ? All those telephonic messages, gibberish language , shutting down businesses by his hooligans has backlash. MQM slowly but gradually has a melt down,

Nobody is missing. As soon as the Rangers were deployed in Sindh, they must have gone in hiding.

Haque Parast May 03, 2016 01:32am

@Fareed KN when you come out of your cave please look at the results of general elections 2013, by-elections NA246, NA245, local govt. elections, cantt elections, senate elections and every other possible election that MQM contested in past 30 years.
