IBF official resigns

LONDON, Nov 15: Neil Cameron, chief executive of the International Badminton Federation (IBF) since 1998, has agreed to quit with immediate effect.

IBF president Korn Dabbaransi of Thailand said: “We are really sorry to see Neil leave. However, it has become increasingly apparent to me and Neil in the last 12 months that the IBF would benefit from a new full-time leader.”

Scot Cameron, 57, said: “It is a wrench and a sad day for me, but I agree it’s best for the IBF and me at this juncture.”

The IBF’s headquarters have been in England since its formation in 1934, but there has been pressure to move to Asia where badminton, an Olympic sport since 1992, enjoys an enormous following in countries like China, Indonesia, Malaysia and South Korea.—Reuters
