‘Pakistan Cup’ one-day tournament set to kick off in Faisalabad

Pakistan Cup, a five-team one-day tournament based on the draft system, is set to kick off on April 19 in Faisalabad and will include teams from the country’s four provinces and a Federal Capital side, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced on Monday.

Sarfraz Ahmed, Shoaib Malik, Younis Khan, Azhar Ali and Misbah-Ul-Haq will lead the sides from Sindh, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Federal Capital respectively.

The teams will be selected by the captain and the coach through a draft which will consist of 150 players.

Each team will be able to select a squad of 15.

The draft process was also adopted during the teams’ selection for the Pakistan Super League which was held earlier this year.

The PCB also announced that the match fees in this tournament will be doubled in comparison to a regular domestic one-day game.

The Pakistan Cup will be the second one-day format domestic tournament to be organized by the PCB this year, the National One-day cup being the first which was held in January and had 16 sides — both from departments and regions.

Azhar Ali needs to be completed kicked out from all shorter versions of the game so that a future strong team can be built! He is a proven flop both as a player as well as a Captain! When will PCB wake up? Are we waiting for another mega event disaster to get tid of this guy?????

a good chance for salman and asif for a comeback. i was totally against their inclusion in the team but the performance by the pakistani "honest" players is very much disappointing.

Since Captains are involved in selection process it will be a real test for Sarfraz Ahmed and Azhar Ali. This will tell us how they think and if they really want to give youngsters a chance. I would go with Sarfraz since he shows more cricketing sense and if he does well here PCB shouldn't hesitate to give him ODI captaincy regardless what Ramiz Raja and Wasim Akram are saying.

Please some team pick Sami Aslam. I don't know why he was not part of the PSL, but the boy has got immense talent and is one for the future. He should be preferred opening batsman for Pakistan in bot T20 and ODIs in place of Ahmad Shahzad, if the latter is dropped again.

@Alireza Rizvi Another mega event disaster? What was the last mega event disaster caused by Azhar Ali? Proven flop as a player? Do you know he has the highest ODI batting average in current Pak team.. I would love to hear what you have to say in regards to these 2 points I just mentioned. Or may be you are just another one of those brainless afridiots.

Thats a good news to get rid of the frustration of Pakistan cricket fans a little bit due to their over expectations from Pakistan cricket team in the past T-20 WC. A chance to see the performance of young emerging players and to see how PCB prove to be wise to select the players on merit basis and treat it as trials for the new Pakistan cricket team for the next upcoming tournaments. But the question is that who is wise and experienced in the PCB to take the wise decisions.

we cannot learn from our mistakes,,,same Misbah, younus, Malik and Azhar Ali made captains,,,,it was a chance to groom players like imad Waseem, Anwar Ali, Rizwan and Babar Azam as future leaders...These outdated horses are are no good in todays age and era....PCB is a curse on Pakistan cricket....one step ahead and three steps back....I am really disappointed
