KARACHI, Nov 15: The heads of the component parties of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal will meet in Karachi after Taravih prayers on Nov 17, under chairmanship of its President, Maulana Shah Ahmed Noorani, to decide MMA’s course of action, to be taken after Eidul Fitr.

Talking to PPI, Maulana Noorani said the meeting of MMA’s Supreme Council would discuss overall political situation in the country, including the scenario emerging in the wake of ongoing government operation in the tribal areas, for past few weeks.

An MMA delegation, comprising MNAs, had also visited the tribal areas, late last month, to review the situation and submitted its report, which would be considered at the meeting on Monday, Mr Norani said.

He said the MMA had sought certain ‘important’ clarifications from Prime Minister Mir Jamali, last month, before his departure to the United States, which Mr Jamali had promised to offer on his return.

The government and the MMA had so far reached no agreement on the Legal Framework Order (LFO), Mr Norani said, reiterating the MMA’s stand that LFO was not part of the Constitution, unless approved by two-third majority in the National Assembly.

Prime Minister Jamali and Ch Shujaat Hussain had lengthy talks with Maulana Noorani, Qazi Hussain Ahmed and Maulana Fazlur Rahman on Aug 6, in Islamabad, to resolve the constitutional crisis, without making headway.

“In our meeting on Nov 17, we would decide our future course of action, to be taken after Eidul Fitr,” Maulana Noorani stated.

MMA president said the Supreme Council’s meeting would be attended by Qazi Hussain Ahmed, Amir of Jamaat-i-Islami, Maulana Fazlur Rahman, Amir Jamiat-i-Ulema Islam (JUI-F), Maulana Samiul Haq, Amir JUI(S), Allama Sajid Naqvi Chief of Tehrik Islami, Prof Sajid Mir head of Jamiat Ahle Hadith, Hafiz Hussain Ahmed, Deputy leader of MMA parliamentary party in the National Assembly, Liaquat Baloch, Deputy Secretary-General MMA and Ejaz Ahmed Hashmi, MMA information secretary.—PPI
