QUETTA: Security forces on Wednesday claimed to have killed 15 suspected militants in Balochistan’s Kalat district.

“Security forces conducted a raid against miscreants of a banned militant organisation in Johan area of Kalat,” said Balochistan government spokesperson Anwarul Haq Kakar.

Kakar added that 15 militants were killed in an exchange of fire with security forces, with two security personnel injured in the action.

The injured security personnel were shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

Security forces also recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition, and destroyed two sanctuaries used by the militants, said Kakar.

“It is premature to say if any high-profile militant commander was among the dead,” said a security official.

Johan is considered a sensitive area in Kalat district, militants operating in the area have been targeting security forces and pro-government politicians in the area.

Militants have conducted attacks against security forces and national installations in Balochistan, which has been plagued by an insurgency and growing sectarian killings for more than a decade.
