RAWALPINDI: In order to facilitate those who want to apply for a passport and a Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) at one time, a one-window office was inaugurated at Rehmanabad on Tuesday.

Speaking to mediapersons after the inauguration, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan announced that a one-window project will be started by Nadra next month in Islamabad as well.

A total of five similar centres will be established across the country and the project will help facilitate residents in getting their CNICs and passports without any problem, he said.

“The federal government will be introducing an online system across the country for the renewal of passports and Nadra has started working on this,” he said.

For the upgradation of its offices, Nadra has been given a target of earning Rs22 billion from fees collected for CNICs and passports, the interior minister said.

A new system has been introduced to stop the issuance of CNICs to Afghan nationals, Chaudhry Nisar said.

“The government has blocked 100,000 CNICs issued to Afghan nationals and has also cancelled thousands,” he said.

So far, 200 Nadra employees have been terminated for facilitating people in submitting incorrect data to get a CNIC, he added.
