Peshawar Zalmi franchise owner Javed Afridi, on Monday announced a reward of $20,000 for West Indies T20 skipper Darren Sammy after the all-rounder lead the Caribbean side to World T20 glory.

“I here by announce a sum of USD:$20,000 for @darrensammy88 from Peshawar Zalmi platform for his excellent team spirit & over all performance,” tweeted Afridi.

West Indies beat England by four wickets to lift the World T20 title for the second time in four years after Carlos Brathwaite’s smoked Ben Stokes for four consecutive sixes in the last over of a thrilling finale played on Sunday.

Sammy was a fan favourite during the inaugural edition of the Pakistan Super League and entertained the crowds with his hard-hitting and wicket-to-wicket medium pace.

The big man from St. Lucia also amused the fans with his attempts to speak Pashto on the sidelines.

Another Zalmi man, Tamim Iqbal also received $5000 from Javed Afridi for becoming the highest-run getter in the World T20, plundering 295 runs in six matches.

The southpaw from Bangladesh was a vital part of the Peshawar franchise and provided them strength at the top of their batting order.

Earlier, the Windies captain also put up a special message in Pashto language for Pakistani fans on his Instagram account.

Me trying to reach out to my Pakistani fans @jafridi10 thanks for the support
