CHITRAL: District nazim Maghfirat Shah has said that despite the presence of dozens of NGOs in Chitral since long their achievement is not discernible in any sector of development. He said that NGOs could deliver if they worked in close coordination with the government organisations.

Addressing Awaz Forum of South Asia Partnership-Pakistan (SAP-PK) on ‘the role of district council in social development’, he said that one of the main reasons for the failure of NGOs was that the stakeholders were neglected while formulating strategy for their development.

Mr Shah, however, said that some of the NGOs had done good job in bringing about a change in the attitudes of people in particular areas making them receptive to development process.

He said that women development would be given priority in the policy formulation of the district government and innovative steps would be taken for their financial and political empowerment.

On this occasion, the councillors demanded more resources for effecting attitude change in the people of their respective constituencies so they could understand the governance and development issues. They also demanded establishment of Darul Aman for women in Chitral.

MAN KILLED: A man was killed and three others were injured when a jeep plunged into a ravine at Junali Koch near Booni here on Friday.
