Muslim man arrested for murder of 'Pakistani Ahmadi' shopkeeper in Glasgow

LONDON: A day after a man believed to be an Ahmadi shopkeeper was killed in Glasgow, police arrested a Muslim man in connection with the murder.

Asad Shah, 40, was killed on Thursday night after he had posted messages on Facebook calling for religious harmony: "Good Friday and very happy Easter, especially to my beloved Christian nation."

Police arrested a 32-year-old Muslim man on Friday, and a spokeswoman said: "A full investigation is underway to establish the full circumstances surrounding the death which is being treated as religiously prejudiced."

Vigils were held on Friday night in memory of Shah who, media reports claim, was originally from Pakistan.

In a statement on Saturday, the Ahmadiyya community in the UK condemned the "completely brutal, horrific and unjustified attack".

Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon joined a vigil for Shah outside his shop on Friday night, while locals gathered again on Saturday to pay tribute to a man they said was a pillar of the community.

Some Muslims (I do not think millions) are fundamentally incompatible to live in western societies if they do not change their view points .To live in western societies you have to be accommodating of lifestyles and tolerant of the culture you have chosen. The major complaints against Muslims in western societies are that they are medieval thinking, rigid and slave to their rituals without considering the cultures they are cohabiting with, I do not feel people are against Muslims, they are against the uncompromising attitude of some Islamic practitioners who just refuse to adjust. It can be irritating and annoying.

Is this Islam? True Islam is a religion of peace, tranquility and forgiveness. And true Islam certainly does not allow you to kill an innocent human being only because his religious beliefs are different from yours.

We all are culprit, why dont we teach the religion in the proper perspective to our brothers, neighbours or our family members, if all these people who are killing the people on the name of Islam were educated they might not the act like that... the only think we do is condemn but our main duty is to correct them

Who will believe Islam is a religion of peace and Muslims are tolerant. These despots are doing irreversible damage to Islam and Ummah. West has tolerated Muslim because of their energy needs from middle East, since turning to alternative sources importance of Middle has diminished as can be seen in policy shift. Few more murders and blasts will result in sanctions and strangulation. Are our religious leaders have any plan to counter the trend.
