GILGIT: The federal interior ministry has warned the Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) government that militants may carry out attacks in Diamer district.

The interior ministry suggested that the GB police should enhance security at government installations and Karakoram Highway (KKH).

The ministry through a letter informed the GB government that the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan was planning attacks in Diamer.

Police asked to enhance security of KKH, govt installations

It said that Taliban may target important personalities on KKH and police installations in the district. Therefore, it added, the GB police should keep an eye on suspected people travelling on KKH and beef up security at its entry and exit points.

A police official, who requested anonymity, told Dawn that GB Inspector General Zaffar Iqbal Awan had informed Diamer Deputy Commissioner Usman Ahmed and SP about the threat.

In the past, terrorists had killed foreign tourists at Nanga Parbat and Shia passengers at the KKH.
