KARACHI: Maj Gen Bilal Akbar, the chief of Pakistan Rangers, Sindh, said on Sunday that the ongoing targeted operation in Karachi was not against any group or party and its only mission was to eradicate crime from the city.
During a meeting with a 70-member delegation of All Pakistan Security Services Association led by retired Brig Rasheed Malik, the director general advised religious and political parties not to protect criminal elements in their ranks.
He said the operation would continue till elimination of terrorism. There was no timeframe for the operation, he added.
He praised the role of security companies which despite all odds were protecting the life and property of people.
Maj Gen Bilal Akbar urged the companies to share their information with law-enforcement agencies and the Rangers would prepare a plan to deal with the matter.
Mr Malik and other members of the delegation praised Rangers for maintaining law and order in the city and expressed the hope that the paramilitary force would continue the operation with the same zeal and spirit.
Rangers’ sector commanders, DIGs and other senior officers were present on the occasion, according to a Rangers statement.

@Khan - Pakistani , USA ..Please visit Karachi and see how much it has changed. Glory is fast returning. People are feeling safe. No more living in fear and shutting businesses out of fear. MQM is now resorting to "peaceful protests " instead of violence...and list goes on. That is the change that Rangers have brought by arresting criminals regardless of political affiliation. Let's open our eyes dear, and not support an individual or a party just on ethnic grounds.

I fled from Karachi and there was no security at that time. People were just killing anyone they don't like. Operation was needed there but until or unless we have Muhajir - Sindhi divide, this is not going to stop.

Where operations against heinous crimes is widely hailed by the people of Karachi, yet there is no denying the fact that our establishment, despite its best efforts, failed to give the impression that this operation has no political intentions.
The biggest failure of our civil military establishment is to see the problem of Karachi using their own lens. They either failed to understand it or simply cannot see deep in the dark. Devolution of power to the people of this city is like winning half the battle.
In fact, provincial government, civil and military establishment is making MQM stronger and stronger. The real key to make a long lasting peace and progress in Karachi lies in highly devolved local bodies system. Sooner it is realized, the better it is for the country.

When you have criminal police,biased civil administration with corrupt provincial and central governments and absence of Local governments representing the people of the area, the answer is great cosmopolitan city of Karachi.The beneficiaries are the private security companies employing thousand and thousand of peoples and minting money and appreciated by the state.These private security companies will vanish once we allow Local governments to function and merit police to work under them as in any other civilised countries.

What is last day of ranger operation in Karachi. Ranger should move to Lahore and south Punjab. Ranger not effective any more in Karachi.

Had people really believed in the fairness of the operation, mqm would not have gotten the historic mandate of the LB elections. Wasn't mqm to party most demonised during the operation and by rule should have been forsaken by the masses. There is obviously something seriously wrong somewhere.
