KARACHI: Five die in road accidents

KARACHI, Nov 11: Five persons died in road traffic accidents in different parts of the city on Tuesday.

Three young men died in an accident on Korangi Road when they were sandwiched between a passenger coach and truck.

Police said that Mohammad Safdar, 30, Hameed Ali, 25 and Bazullah, 18, were on a motorcycle (KCF-3919), heading towards defence, when they were hit by a speeding passenger coach (PE-5958) at traffic signal ahead of Kalapul on main Korangi Road.

Police said that the coach rammed into a mineral water supply truck (KN-0656), sandwiching the three motorcyclists between the two vehicles.

Eyewitnesses said that due to the impact, the pickup truck also hit a private car.

Edhi sources said that two young men died on the spot, while the third one was rushed to the nearby Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where he died shortly after his arrival.

The sources said that the truck driver Rauf and his helper, Amjad, were also injured in the accident.

The Defence police station confirmed that the errant driver of the coach escaped from the spot, leaving behind the vehicle.

The Police said that the dead were residents of FB Area and were air-conditioning technicians.

In Korangi, an elderly man died in a road traffic accident in the limits of Zaman Town police station.

Police said that Shoaib Ahmed, 60, was on his motorcycle (KAQ-7906) when he was crushed by a speeding bus (AJK-9353).

The errant bus driver escaped from the spot, the police said, adding that the injured died before he could be shifted to the hospital.

In Site area, a young man died in a road traffic accident while crossing a road.

Police said that Mohammad Ali, 30, was knocked down by a speeding truck (JT-6134) near Gulbai.

The victim was taken to the Civil Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

SHOT DEAD: A young man was shot dead by his cousins in Pak Colony on Tuesday.

Police said that Mirza Khan, 24, was shot dead, allegedly by his three cousins, in Hasrat Mohani Colony.

The Police said that Mirza Khan had came to Pak Colony area to dispose off some junk on a pickup truck where he was shot by his cousins.

The police said that the suspects escaped after the shooting, while the injured was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The police said that killing was a result of some personal enmity. Victim’s brother lodged an FIR and nominated his cousins in the case, the police added.

MAN KILLED: A middle-aged man was shot dead at the door of his house in Gulzar-i-Hijri police limits on Tuesday.

Police said that Mohammad Akbar, 45, was standing at the door step of his house in Ilyas goth near New Sabzi mandi, when unknown persons shot him dead.

Police suspected some personal enmity as a possible motive behind the killing, the victim hailed from Azad Kashmir.

His body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for the post-mortem examination.
