LAHORE: Distribution companies of the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) on Saturday announced a reduction of Rs15 per kilogram, bringing domestic cylinder down by Rs170 and commercial by Rs680.

According to the LPG Distributors Association, the new prices were at 10-year low and would help control inflation in the country.

In Karachi, the new price would be Rs70 per kg and domestic cylinder would be Rs840.

In Punjab, the price would be Rs65 a kg and domestic cylinder could be bought at Rs780.

In Azad Kashmir, the price would be Rs80 per kg, with domestic cylinder at Rs960.

In northern areas, the price would be Rs100/kg, with cylinder costing Rs1,020.

According to the association’s president, Irfan Khokhar, the main reason behind the fall was the slide in international petroleum prices, following by a massive over production and a glut in the global crude oil market.

In addition to that, the government has also started regulating liquefied petroleum gas prices after a hiatus of 15 years, which lead to the reduction.

The LPG marketing companies in February 2016 cut the prices with the same amount.
