LAHORE, Nov 10: The farmers of the Lower Chenab Canal system will get 25 per cent additional water after completion of rehabilitation work.

This was stated by Punjab Irrigation Secretary Javed Majeed on Monday while talking to members of the nehri punchyat from the area.

He said all the rehabilitation work would be carried out under supervision of the punchyat. After completion, the system would get 30,000 cusecs of extra supplies.

The distribution, collection of funds and maintenance work of the Lower Chenab Canal is being privatized on experimental basis under a programme.

The World Bank has sponsored the programme to reform water distribution and involve local farmers in the system.
