DHAKA: Pakistan miscalculated the pitch in the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka and will learn from their mistakes after a crushing five-wicket loss to bitter rivals India, batsman Shoaib Malik said Sunday.
Pakistan were bundled out for a paltry 83 in Saturday's crucial T20 tie against M.S. Dhoni's side.
They must win against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Monday to keep their Asia Cup hope alive.
The game has an added significance as it will make Pakistan the first team to play 100 Twenty20 internationals.
“Playing against India, it's a pressure game for both the teams,” Malik said after a training session in Dhaka.
“We made some mistakes, we didn't know what the conditions here would be. It was tough to bat yesterday. But we miscalculated somewhat, because we had no idea about the conditions,” he said.
“Now we have played. Now we know how to deal with it. It's going to be a great game against UAE. Obviously, you learn from your mistakes, and that's why we are here doing practice,” Malik added.
When Pakistan defended their meagre total, Mohammad Amir generated pace and swing with pinpoint accuracy on a helpful track to leave India rattled at 8-3 inside three overs.
But Virat Kohli coolly negotiated Amir's fiery spell to strike 49 off 51 balls and steer India home with 27 balls to spare.
Malik expressed full confidence in his bowlers and urged the batsmen to back them up.
“We know we have the best attack among all the teams. Batsmen have to take responsibility,” he said.
“Whoever gets in has to score 60-70, so your team ends up scoring 140-150, which the bowlers can defend.”

Shoaib please stop giving excuses, India just dint beat you with Batting & Bowling but also great fielding, the fitness standards of both the teams cannot be compared as Indians are way ahead of Pakistani side. They are all professionals and they can't read a pitch especially when a couple of matches had already been played on the pitch.
You need a new selection committee and a new coach and administration. The chief selector was never a regular part of the team and was technically faulty. He selects similar batsmen. If they continue with this group they will start losing to UAE and Afghanistan soon. Bangladesh is already ahead

At the age of 34 years and captaining Sialkot stallions for years you cant understand the conditions.
Even in PSL conditions were hard for you, until Ravi Bhopara exposed your match fixing and as face saving PCB forced you to give up captaincy !!

Virat kohli is 27 years of age and has international experience of 7 years and when he went to bat in, he assessed the conditions well and adapted his batting according to the conditions. shoaib Mailk has international experience of 13 years(twice than virat), has travelled accross the world, played on different pitches and conditions and inspite of all this while batting in bangladesh he gives such lame reason. it only shows he is mentally not there and time has come for retirement.

Mr Shoaib Malik you, Misbah, Afridi, other batsmen don't bat. You just thro your bat. You all have the worst batting technique against decent bowlers bowling on length. You all have lost all confidence in going forward to kill the swing and making a meaningful stroke. You all either just stand in the crease on an overpitched (like you did and were out), or don't take your foot across but just hand our bat (like Sharjeel did), or you just shuffle and hope for the best. University players have better technique. You all are a disgrace to batting. Have some respect and resign.

@Amir Stop giving excuses for your failures. LBWs go both ways the same had happened during the bowling of Bumrah there were close calls. The Pakistani players dint even know to judge singles & doubles is that also luck, yes wont deny that India was under trouble because there was quality bowling but that doesnt mean that Dhoni, Jadeja & Yuvraj couldnt have finished the game. Admit it that the current Pakistani team is very very average in all sense accept bowling.
Surely Amir gets the advantage of being unknown entity but the puzzle would be solved very soon the same like the Bangladeshi Teenage sensation bowler who got hit around in the last match.

Guys you are as passionate about cricket as we Indians are. Had we lost to Pakistan we would have been mad as well. The fact of the matter is those who have played above club level cricket will admit Indian batting is not exactly what Pakistan makes it out to be, its brittle. We have 2 batsman who can perform on all types of wickets. But Pakistan was done in by their batting and lack of basic discipline to the technique of batting and even worst the whole game of cricket. Having witnessed the prodigal Pakistani talent this display was inexcusable. U need to get a pool of new 10/12 batsman you consistently pick and play till 4/5 of them find their rhythm. The current lot is just occupying shelf space.

These oldies prevent new talent from coming through. Afridi should be dropped first and young Nawaz should come in his place as a genuine all rounder instead of 1/10 match performer...Afridi.
Ahmed Shahzad has learnt his lesson after being dropped and should come back and open with Sharjeel, Hafeez is better at one down so that he does not face initial swinging deliveries.. Khalid Latif at 4, Umar Akmal at 5, Nawaz at 6, then Sarfaraz, Imad Wasim, Sami, Amir and Irfan.
Shoib Malik does not bowl too much so better to get a better batsman like Khalid Latif in. Wahab Riaz has the pace but not the control and swing that is required at this level. He needs to be taught what it takes to be a good bowler as pace may be good enough at domestic level but just having pace is not enough at international level.

I beg to disagree. Probably Amir is the best bowler among all 5 teams, but the same cannot be said about the rest of the Pakistan bowling. Even Bangladesh bowling attack is better than Pakistan under these conditions. The trick against Pakistan is see off Amir - rest of the bowlers are accurate but not threatening.

Shoaib and his wife are on completely different trajectories as far as sporting careers are concerned. Sania-Hingis' record of 40 straight wins was recently broken. She doesn't give excuses, just candidly accepts her mistakes and tries to correct them. At least learn something from your wife!
(On a lighter note, the way Sania hits her forehands - I think she can right now perform better than any other Pakistani opener)

So essentially Pakistan lost because they had not idea what to expect from the pitch? Here's the difference - Indian team read the pitch, and made Pakistan bat first.
The matches are won by strategy and mental toughness - when it was Pakistan's strategy creation time probably most of the players were busy in a local party. They just showed up the next day in green shirts.

Apart from Umar Akmal, all the Pakistani main batsmen threw away their wickets by playing shots which would be seen in an inter school match. This had less to do with the pitch & more with foolish batting. 2 run outs and Malik chasing a ball that was nearly a wide were prime examples.

Few days ago you almost all have played the BPL, and further Bangladesh too shares the common environment of the subcontinent, so raising the question of condition is hardly a matter but lame excuse. Why blame the pitch - what has run outs to do with the pitch? India also played on the same pitch but they used something called Common Sense which Pakistani players were lacking. Blame the team selection Khurram playing after 7 years that too he in ODI's, T20 was his debut. Afridi do not have place in the team and he is captaining. Best joke of 2016 is Afridi is not retiring from T20's. PCB should tell him to retire before he is forced to do so!

So Mr.Malik at age 34 can't bat ,bowl ( and now) can't even read pitch conditions- seems like a perfect candidate for a permanent spot in the team.

It is our coaching staff as well as our team leaders who seem to have no knowledge of cricket even after being involved with the game at highest level for decades. Take a few examples here, (1) When Dhoni won the toss and went for bowling, Afridi was happy because even if he had won the toss he would have bat, that's what he said. And be aware, it's not only Afridi who had decided so, Waqar had his input too. (2) We have a batting coach but he obviously still does not have time to tell Mohammad Amir that you can't ever cut or play to the third-man while facing fuller balls

Thats just an excuse, we as a naion have been betrayed and humiliated so many times by this team and most of them are playing for 20 years now all around the world in different conditions and they still blame conditions what a joke. The Pakistani people should not be so critical and emotional of a loss .Pakistani cricket has suffered a lot with no home games and limited away games .The reason why you still have some old horses in the race is because there has not been any inspirational leaders ever since the Sri Lanka tour mishap. The team and the nation needs to realize that Pakistan was frozen the last 10 years but the neighbors have gone 50 years ahead . Bangladesh especially has done remarkably well in terms of growing their cricket .Its best to think pragmatically on how to rebuild cricket in Pakistan instead of hoping and praying for wonders.

Dear Malik,You as a professional experienced batsman had the luxury to watch two matches on the same pitch, then you saw your teamate, so called professor playing rash shot without getting in and getting used to conditions with a ball that had bounce and carry. If these were not a clue to you about pitch condition, then you should retire. Like hafeez and umar akmal you are not capable of assessing situation, pitch condition, your roles and dynamic nature of modern cricket. For god sake value your wicket. Please assess how Virat and Sarfarz batted according to situation. I am sure if you score a 50 against UAE and you along with Hafeez and Umar will last another 10 series....PCB, please note these players will never learn after years of useless experience. At least new players might have better head on their shoulders than these bunch!

This is where Dhoni made the difference. He won the toss but opted to field. Not only that his bowling changes, some guidance to bowlers and field placements caused Pakistan's low total. India won primarily because of a very low total of Pakistan and not because the Indian batsmen played spectacularly good innings.

Really. You couldn't see the green pitch. And after loosing 2 early wickets, you could have still adjusted. But every batsman had to throw their wicket. Even if a team is surprised early int eh game, their are adjustments during the game. What happened to that?

Just remembering Pakistan team 15 years before.... anwar and sohail comes to bat and it was heart breaking for us( I am from Chennai). They give standard format of all types of cricket and it is worth to watch(I enjoy it even it is opposite team). Then comes inzamam, rameez raja and izaz ahmed and they play masterclass cricket. Then comes the bowling attack, Wasim gets the wicket if he wants in that over. :)
NOW for me Pakistan team is just cricket team with 11 squads. :)

What do two foolish run outs have to do with pitch or conditions? Only we in Pakistan can not feel ashamed at being all out at 83 and still praise our bowling! India may have lost a few early wickets but they won with five wickets in hand. It is not like they lost 8 or 9 wickets and were behind in run rate. The fact is all our top batsmen failed miserably and shamefully.

Disgusting performance by Pakistan.With due respect to Afridi for his contributions for Pakistan ,it is the high time that Board realize that Afridi is a wrong choice to captain our team.
He has few limitations , which were visible during match with india , one he cannot handle pressure (body language after losing toss) and secondly inability to plan and execute it ( he arrived at the pitch during 8 th over and can steer out team out of crisis situation by merely standing /rotating strike ,instead of losing the wicket in a shameful manner)
Please change Afridi during Asia Cup or surely before world T20.

I have been saying Pak is the worst batting side by a country mile compared to most teams, even Zim I would ,say. And it is likely to get worse if no action is taken! It is obvious that basic batting technique is lacking in all. Then to top,it up,it appears they don't even learn from mistakes and come out with lame and unworthy excuses! I am dreading the tour of England....batters will be setting record low,scorers....like getting bowled out for under 50 in a test match. That is very likely.

I am a big fan of Waim and Waqar, very passionate bowling by Amir, he can become great asset for Pak team. Pak selectors should give voluntary retirement options to few players like malik, afridi, etc.
Indian team played very professionally and were clinical in their strategy. They have been performing consistently, they loose few games here and there but winning has becoming a habit for Indian team. Dhoni is the best captain India had after Kapil paaji. Kohli is ready to take over. India are the favorites for both Asia cup and T20 world cup.

This Pak team reminds me the Indian team of 90s, where they were dependent on 2-3 players Sachin, Rahul and Sourav. What ever matches were won it was due to individual brilliance of players and not by team efforts.
They need to play as a team under a qualified coach rather than just hoping to turn the tables.
