QUETTA: Police have yet to file an FIR in a case about the suicide of a 17-year-old college girl, Saqiba Hakim Kakar, even though her family has filed an application for registration of the case.

Sources said on Wednesday that police were waiting for report of a committee tasked with investigating the suicide before proceeding further in the case.

Saqiba committed suicide last week because the principal of her college, the Government Girls Degree College Muslim Bagh, had allegedly refused to send her examination form to the education board because she had organised a protest against the college authorities.

The sources said the police were reluctant to register an FIR before issuance of a report by the inquiry committee. The late girl’s family nominated the principal of the college and one of its clerks as “the accused” in their application.

“We have to wait for the inquiry committee’s report before registering FIR against those found guilty in the report,” a senior police officer in Qila Saifullah district said. A medical report of the deceased was also awaited, he said.
