LAHORE, Nov 8: The City District Government price checking teams on Saturday arrested 130 shopkeepers and lodged FIRs against another 19 for selling the essential commodities at exorbitant rates and under-weighing.

Fines totalling Rs41,400 were also imposed on 36 shopkeepers on-the-spot by the teams led by CDG Revenue Department officials.

The shopkeepers were arrested and fined in Gulberg, Garhi Shahu, Badami Bagh, Shahdara, Data Nagar, Mozang, Allama Iqbal Town, Defence, Baghbanpura, Chowk Yateem Khana and Chungi Amar Sidhu areas.

Of 15 shops checked by the Aziz Bhatti Town Meat Inspector, five were found selling the meat of illegally slaughtered animals.

The meat was confiscated and auctioned for Rs6,000. Meat shops were inspected in Tajpura, Hajipura and Pir Naseer.

The District Labour Office officials caught 31 shopkeepers for under-weighing the goods and instituted 36 cases against them under the provisions of Weights and Measures Act.
