SUKKUR: A demonstration was staged here on Monday in protest against the poor performance of the North Sindh Urban Services Corporation (NSUSC) due to which dirty water has been standing on the roads, streets and graveyards.

The demonstration said the sewerage water had entered their houses, but the corporation failed to drain out the water and supply purified drinking water to the citizens.

The parties taking part in demonstration include Sukkur Citizen Welfare Organisation, Sukkur Peace Movement, Jeay Sindh Mahaz, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Labour Welfare Organisation.

The protest was led by Syed Imran Ali Shah, Ashfaq Bhatti, Sanaullah Mahar, Kashif Malik, Talib Hussain, Saeed Ahmed and others.

The protesters made a mock grave of the NSUSC chief in Pir Murad Ali Shah graveyard and held the demonstration in front of it.

The leaders on the occasion said drain water was standing on almost all paths and ways, roads and in street, even in graveyards.

They said main graveyards of Sukkur city including those of Pir Murad Ali Shah, Nawan Goth and Adam Shah were submerged by dirty water, damaging the graves there.

There was improper sanitation in the city and heaps of garbage were lying along roads and in streets due to which public health was under threat. Citizens suffered from abdominal diseases as they were supplied untreated water, they added.

They demanded a probe into release of funds to the NSUSC by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and a stern legal action against those involved in corruption.

They said their movement against the NSUSC would continue unless its performance improved.
