ISLAMABAD: A retired SSG commando, arrested by the capital police in connection with murder, was also wanted in weapons and suicide jackets recovery case registered with Shahzad Town police in 2011, police said on Monday.

The former officer had served as a Lt-Col in the army and retired in 2005.

He was arrested on Saturday by Nilor police on charges of murdering Nazakat Hussain in Kajna village on December 18, 2010.

According to the police, the incident took place after vehicles of Nazakat and the retired officer collided. Both men got into a scuffle, but later left the scene. However, later the retired officer along with his associates attacked Nazakat and his two uncles and seriously injured them.

Nazakat died of his injuries at the hospital, the police added.

During investigation, when Nilore police checked his criminal record with Shahzad Town police they came to know that the retired officer was also wanted in connection with the recovery of two missiles, two hand grenades and a suicide jacket from his car on October 8, 2011.

A case was registered with Shahzad Town police.

This recovery also led to the arrest of a ‘terrorist’, who later informed the police during interrogation that the retired army officer supplied him with the weapons.

The alleged terrorist also provided information about the weapons he kept in a hideout in Chatta Bakhtawar, from where the police further recovered three suicide jackets, 12 hand grenades, over a dozen detonators, 16 rocket fuse, 14 missiles and weapons.

SSP Sajid Kiani was not available for his comments on the arrest, despite various phone calls and SMS.
