GUJRANWALA, Nov 6: Nearly 44 councillors of the Saddar tehsil council, who passed a no-trust movement against their Nazim few days ago, on Thursday handed over their resignations to the opposition leader.

The councillors took the decision when the Nazim, Mubashar Ahmad Cheema, refused to accept the move and got the tehsil council offices locked.

At a meeting presided over by opposition leader Adnan Balagan, the councillors said residents of 39 union councils of the Saddar tehsil, including traders and shopkeepers, were being humiliated by the Nazim over their petty demands and complaints.

As a result, a majority of councillors in the house expressed no-trust against him, reacting to which he got the rooms of the tehsil council offices locked.

They criticized the Nazim for again locking the office on Thursday, saying the officials could not say their prayers at the mosque.

They submitted their resignations to the opposition leader, and said these would be produced to the chief minister on his return from abroad.

SENTENCE: A local court handed down 14-year imprisonment with orders to pay Rs285,000 diat (compensation money) to Haider Masih in a murder case, here on Monday.
