I FULLY endorse Justice (r) Salauddin Mirza (Jan 20). The revival of student unions will make our educational institurions a nursery of the democratic system that we all want but are unable to establish.

I have been an active union leader myself in university and college. Let me remind the readers that Jehangir Badar of the PPP is the product of Hailey College of Commerce, Lahore. Liaquat Baloch of Jamaat-i-Islami is another example.

How these unions were hijacked by power-hungry politicians is no secret. Banning an activity is not the answer; instead corrective measures are the solution. Who would know it better than Justice Mirza who has been, I am sure, sending violators to jail in his time as a judge.
