Corey Anderson whacked a career-best 82 not out as New Zealand set Pakistan an imposing 197-run target in their deciding Twenty20 in Wellington..
Anderson, who missed the first half of the New Zealand summer because of injury, was at his big-hitting best in only the third match since his return.
He came to the crease when New Zealand were struggling to rebuild their innings after they lost two quick wickets following another flying start by Martin Guptill and Kane Williamson.
Anderson faced 42 deliveries and hit six fours and four sixes as he led New Zealand to 196-5, the highest Twenty20 total at Westpac Stadium.
At the head of the innings Guptill continued on from his unbeaten 87 in the second match with 42 off 19 balls as New Zealand raced to 57 in the first six overs.
But when Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi brought himself on he captured Guptill's wicket in his first over and crucially arrested the pace of the New Zealand innings.
Afridi opted to bowl after winning the toss, quoting the history of the stadium where all six previous Twenty20 fixtures have been won by the side batting second.
He had reason to feel he was in control when Colin Munro followed Guptill to the crease and faced only three balls before he ran himself out.
Williamson had played a circumspect innings until he started to force the pace when Anderson was settling in and was caught for 33 off 34 balls.
Ross Taylor faced only four balls before he retired hurt, and with New Zealand's top order rapidly returning to the pavilion Anderson took it upon himself to regain control.
Wahab Riaz was the most successful of the Pakistan bowlers with two for 43.
The three-match series is tied after Pakistan won the first tie by 16 runs and New Zealand won the second by 10 wickets.

Good Maqsood drop and unfortunately Shazad is there also non-performer and due to him still chance losing bcs he is playing since 2009 and not match finisher Shahzad is loser.

I wish I am wrong which perhaps I am not. NZ is playing such a terrific run rate that I have my very serious doubts that our batsmen can withstand the pressure and bat to score more than NZ. I have my very serious doubts if Pakistan has ever scored at so high rate what we see now from the host New Zealanders. Just wait and see.

NZ scored 196 which means now Pakistan shall have to net 197 to win the game otherwise we are doomed. They have scored at the rate of 9.80 which is not that easy to catch up but still I being a Pakistani pray that we win the game but historically speaking we have faced odds whenever had to chase such a big total. BTW, I am not favoring NZ as one may think of but commented alike because this what we have proved till now irrespective of the format involved therein. Pakistan had scored 203 / 5 against Bangladesh in 2008 which is our highest ever score in T 20 but against BD but now we face NZ. Good luck but for whom-bat or ball though b is common in both. Afridi likes Shahzad and Rizwan ... well, Rizwan because he is from Afridi home province ... so they all should play ... great ... well, someone somewhere love Hafeez and Malik, they have connections, so they play. Afridi has developed own fan and whatever he does, gets out for a duck as habit or make some quick runs, so he would play... In the end, Pakistan lose and Pakistanis should accept that, because in the end, cricket is game and what is wrong if some high up do some nepotism, favourism or whatever.

What a great player Umar Akmal is ... when there is 20 overs and target is 197 ... that is around 7 runs per over, Akmal plays 13 balls, make 5 runs and ... here he goes, a hero who would play next 20 games too, because lady selectors like him. What a great way to get into team, right? ;)

what a poor performance 60/5 wk overs 10 average 6 runs p/over needed 10 runs per over. I have early mentioned Ahmad Shazad time over players, should be drop for 2 yrs he have no motivation, poor performance, non performer he getting lot of chance no more experiment on him and for T20 w/cup in india he is wrong man wrong to give him chance. Drop him from today score.

Here goes Afridi. Played 8 balls, hit 1 fluke that was six. Made two messy singles and than after making 8 runs he is gone ... Bahaduri kay saath chakkka martay huay challay gayea. I am sure many would die seeing his shot that was attempted 6, though magic lady was against him and he got out.

Only player playing as batsman is Sarfraz, but that would be bad, because he would get dropped in batting order again, so that his confidence erode. This is how Pakistani cricket works. If it is difficult to get rid of someone you do not like, make him sit outside as 12th man, or move him up and down to erode the confidence.

Pakistani team too weak, opening Shezad, always hit high and get out, they do not play ground boundaries, they are not strong enough like NZ players to hit power shots except Akmal. Afridi hits blindly, he is a hopeless player. Pakistani plyers are short and have no power, only good shots they can do at most is boundries, if they hit six they will be knocked out in no time. They won first 20 just by good luck. If Pakistani team try to hit six, they will be very stupid. They are not strong enough to hit six especially on fast track and with fast balls.

Well, Sarfraz has gone too at 41. Now two more to go, and Pakistani team would return home as hero. People liked how Shahzad and Umar swings bat, how bravely Afridi ends his innings hitting six, how hafeez get out on ball that can be played laughingly by a school child ... and that is it, Glorious Pakistan.

It seems, Pakistan T20 heroes ... bahaduri say hartay huye kal ghar wapis aa jayen gay. I hope, Pakistanis would receive them at airport and would give them hero welcome ... and as for performance, just keep in mind, cricket is only game, and in game we know how to get our nose rubbed on concrete floor. corruption, nepotism, favoritism, politics is bringing a down fall of Pakistan cricket just as it happened with Squash and Hockey. Soon no one is going to follow cricket just like no one has interest in squash and hockey anymore. Ever since the arrival of Waqar and his supporting coaches, Pakistani team performance has been going down in ODI's and T20's.
Coaching team along with all aging tried & tested players should be shown the door starting with Waqar and Afridi. A young team will loose some matches initially but the future will be bright. Look at Newzealand, Australia and Bangladesh. They all have young players who failed initially but now the backbone of the teams.

Nepotism is keeping Ahmad Shehzad in the team. Sharjeel is the best option. Times have changed and now you can't win a T20 with only the lower batting order scoring rapidly. Umar Akmal must be played at 3 or 4 as he always finds it hard to build his innings at no. 5 & 6 with pressure mounting.

why cant pak produce players like Warner, Maxell, Kohli, Guptil ? The answer is simple as long as you select players you like it ill happen. Shahzad, Maqsood, Gul, Anwar Ali ar ethe captain favorite. And talent like, Nauman Anar ( dropped after one game ), Hammad Azam, Fakhar Zaman and Sadaf Hussain will never get a chance. The PCB doesnt care as long as they get there hefty salaries and free tours, the govt needs to step up and clean the mess. Is anyone listening ?

How do I save my face? Many times I have faced it like it happened just a minute ago. Being in Kuwait bulk majority of Pakistanis like me interact with Indians for more than one reason. Three Indians (Mohan, Joseph and Ali) called and said we are sorry Pakistan lost to NZ though we being your neighbor wished that Pakistan should have won the series and not just the game instead. Joseph wondered how Pakistan could score just 100 whereas NZ had scored nearly double of it. Ali was really made fun of me saying that if Pakistan team will play like this then it is better Pakistan should withdraw itself from next T20 series rather than once again be humiliated alike. Mohan asked me what punitive action, if any, will be taken against those responsible for the defeat. I had no answer but just kept on listening and thanking them for exchanging our thoughts.

@ZAIDI, Iqbal Hadi :: Zaidi Sb, I feel confused reading your comment. Are you worried more due to Indians taunting at you or due to humiliating defeat of Pakistan. By the way if the reason is just taunting then for your information India has been consistently facing defeat from Ausies so you could taunt them too. Keep in mind Australia and NewZealand are the top two teams right now playing in their homes and a much better cricket than their opposition .If your worries are for 2nd reason than you are worried rightly but never take it so emotional that's a game and one should win with the defeat of other, at least a good reason to avoid disappointment.
