FAISALABAD: Four unidentified men kidnapped an assistant professor of the Government College University (GCU), Faisalabad, and subjected him to torture on Thursday.

Vice Chancellor Dr Mohammad Ali told Dawn that the men, said to be lawyers, had come to the university and demanded from Dr Khizar, an assistant professor of the Zoology Department, the voucher for submitting fee of a student. Dr Khizar refused to give them the voucher, saying it would be handed over to the student only.

At this, the men misbehaved with him and kidnapped him after he left the university in the evening, said the VC.

He said the kidnappers kept Dr Khizar in the basement of a building and tortured him. They also threatened him with dire consequences in case of revealing the incident to anyone.

Later, Dr Ali said, the kidnappers threw Dr Khizar on a road.

Lyallpur Town SP Ali Waseem said an investigation into the incident had been launched.

He said Dr Khizar did not know the names of his kidnappers, however, they would be detected with the help of the student whose voucher they had demanded.

He claimed the suspects had thrashed Dr Khizar in the car and not in any basement before dropping him on Narawala Road.

Dr Khizar has been taken to the hospital for medical examination, he added.
