NEW YORK: Former president of Pakistan and Pakistan People’s Party leader Asif Ali Zardari is awaiting arrival of former ambassador to Washington Sherry Rehman in Washington this week, informed sources here said.

Mr Zardari, who arrived in New York last week has since been avoiding limelight and is expected to appear in public when his son Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Ms Rehman arrive here.

According to informed sources, Mr Zardari is trying to avoid meeting his other former envoy Husain Haqqani, who has been accused by the Pakistan Muslim League-N leader Khawaja Asif of lobbying the US Congress not to sell F-16 fighter planes to Islamabad.

Mr Zardari is expected to meet US lawmakers and officials of the US State Department.
