Soomro for more water reservoirs

Published November 5, 2003

LAHORE, Nov 4: Acting-president Mohammadmian Soomro on Tuesday called for construction of more water reservoirs.

Talking to newsmen at the residence of Senator Dr Khalid Ranjha where he had gone to condole with him on the death of his mother on Tuesday afternoon, the acting-president said more water was needed for Sindh, Balochistan and parts of the country at canals’ tailends.

Welcoming the initiatives taken by the President Pervez Musharraf in this regard, the acting-president said more water could help engage the unemployed people in the agricultural sector. He however maintained that Sindh’s reservations about the issue should be addressed.

On a question about law and order, he said the government could not tackle the law and order issue alone, and the citizens must also play their due role in helping the law-enforcement agencies stamp out crime and other social evils.

The acting-president urged the parliamentarians to maintain decorum of the House, as it was the responsibility of every member to observe the rules.—APP
