LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Tuesday that his government had cancelled the Ring Road contract awarded to Kamran Kayani for his failure to honour the commitment.

“When the PML-N came to power in Punjab in 2008, I found that Kamran Kayani (brother of former army chief retired Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani) was awarded the Ring Road construction contract by the previous government. Finding that he was not working up to the mark, I spoke to Gen Kayani and asked him to advise his brother to do the work according to specification. But his performance did not improve.

“I again complained to Kayani sahib, but to no avail. Then I cancelled the contract because of his failure to honour the commitment,” Shahbaz Sharif said while talking to a private TV channel.

In the same talk show, PML (Like-Minded) leader Kashmala Tariq said she had been harassed after she mentioned the name of the brother of Gen Kayani in real estate matters. “I received threats and faced harassment for three years after mentioning his name in a TV programme,” she said.

Analyst retired Brig Mahmood Shah said he had also talked to the former army chief to get the allegations against his brothers investigated.
