KARACHI: The Karachi Union of Journalists (KUJ) has called upon the government to begin proceedings of the Eighth Wage Board.

Through a resolution adop­ted at its annual general council meeting on Monday, the KUJ expressed concern over the government’s attitude towards journalists’ problems.

The meeting, presided over by KUJ President G.M. Jamali, discussed the performance of the outgoing body.

Former general secretary of KUJ, Syed Hassan Abbas, Mazhar Abbas, Javed Chaudhry and Bachal Leghari spoke at the meeting.

KUJ General Secretary Wajid Raza Isfahani presented the annual report. It was disclosed in the report that the KUJ had provided financial assistance of Rs11,185,985 to its members on various heads during its tenure. It included financial aid of Rs2,857,000 to 109 members.
