MITHI: At least seven more children died in several hospitals of Tharparkar on Monday as the Sindh minister for relief and rehabilitation, Ali Hassan Hingorjo, visited Mithi and other areas of the district and vowed to eliminate all issues faced by the people.
The overall death toll has risen to 41 in Tharparkar since the drought hit in the beginning of this month.
A minor Rajab Rahimoon lost his life in Civil Hospital Mithi while an infant Ishwer Lal died in Nagarparkar.
Meanwhile, scores of children were brought to the hospitals in Mithi, Diplo, Nagarparkar, Islamkot, Chhachhro and other towns of the district for the treatment.
It is pertinent to mention that the power generator installed at Mithi's civil hospital is out of order, making life difficult for children kept in the incubators during loadshedding.
Parents and relatives of patients have also complained about attitude of doctors and other paramedical staff.
Hospitals providing 'best healthcare'
The commissioner Mirpurkhas Shafiq Ahmed Mehsar maintained that child marriages, malnutrition, lack of the healthcare facilities were still the main issues of the area.
Mehsar claimed that not only doctors but lady health workers too are showing negligence in carrying out their duties.
"I have warned all the lady health workers to perform their duties honestly or be ready for a stern action" he added.
He also claimed that big hospitals including the civil hospital in Mithi, after the release of additional funds by Sindh government, were providing best healthcare facilities to the people.
"As soon as we get directions from Sindh government we will begin distributing wheat bags among people," he said.
He added that the district might be declared as 'calamity-hit' in the light the report prepared by seven member committee comprising the officials and notables of the area including journalists.
