QUETTA, Nov 3: Central leaders of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal Qazi Hussain Ahmad and Hafiz Hussain Ahmad and Fata MNA Maulana Mohammad Malik have said the United States and Israel want to destabilize Pakistan and Iran to weaken Islamic movements all over the world.

Speaking at a joint press conference in Naushki on Monday, they extended support to the demands made by the Chaghai Action Committee, including removing the Frontier Corps checkpoints in the district.

The MMA leaders strongly condemned the US policies in Afghanistan and Iraq, and accused the Bush administration of hatching a conspiracy against the Iranian government. Similarly, they said, Israel in collaboration with India, was planning to harm the nuclear capacity of Pakistan.

However, they said, the United States, Israel and India would not be able to suppress the resistance movements in Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine and Kashmir, stating that Islamic movements fully supported the liberation struggle in these countries.

The MMA leaders asserted that the government alone could not foil the designs of the US and Israel, and maintained that to protect the integrity and sovereignty of the country the government should respect the mandate granted to the opposition.

Criticizing the detention of ARD President Javed Hashmi, the MMA leaders warned the government that undemocratic acts or denial of legal rights to Mr Hashmi could not stop the opposition from staging protest demonstrations against the government.

They said the Jamali government should act independently while tackling the constitutional and political matters and added that arrests of politicians or political activists would widen the gulf between the government and the opposition.

The leaders reiterated that the MMA would launch a movement against the government if the latter failed to table the constitutional package it agreed with the MMA, saying the religious parties alliance would not compromise on the LFO.

The MMA leaders claimed that they were striving to settle all constitutional and political issues facing the nation through a dialogue in order to strengthen democratic institutions.

They accused President Musharraf of creating hurdles in the smooth functioning of parliament, adding the president’s attitude had been causing a delay in removing differences on constitutional issues.

The MMA leaders supported the seven-point demands of the Chaghai action committee that included abolishing of the checkpoints around the Naushki town, maintaining that during checking of vehicles at different checkpoints passengers including women were humiliated.
