MIANWALI, Nov 3: The local education authorities have sacked a peon without paying her a penny for her 16 months service.

Bashiran Bibi, mother of six, applied for a job in the education department to earn bread and butter for her family. On the recommendation of the District Nazim, the EDO (education), in May 2002, appointed her as ‘Bolawi’ (peon) at the MC Primary Girls School, Mohallah Miana, Mianwali.

After a month, she applied for salary but the matter was put in cold storage. She, however, kept on serving besides fighting for her dues until her services were terminated in the first week of Oct, 2003.

On one occasion, the EDO directed the DEO (female) to look into the matter. In her report, the DEO said that Bashiran’s name had not been included in the salary list because of some official lapse and that she deserved to be compensated.

Following the DEO report, her salary bills were submitted to the authorities concerned but the dues were not cleared.

Bashiran did appeal to the Punjab Education department which directed the EDO to look into the matter sympathetically but to no avail.

The poor lady also approached the district nazim who, she said, seemed helpless before the education mafia.

“To whom should I appeal for justice now?” she asked, adding: “The education mafia has ruined my future to earn honourable for my family.”
