PESHAWAR, Oct 29: Students of commerce department, who are housed at the Government Polytechnic Institute for Women, have demanded of the government to provide them a separate building as it has become difficult for them to attend their classes at the institute.

The female students were protesting against apathy of the administration in front of the Peshawar Press Club here on Wednesday.

The institute has many disciplines, but students enrolled in commerce department were unwilling to continue their studies at the institute, a student said.

They said that discriminatory behaviour of some of the teachers of other departments had forced students to call some 300 female students of the commerce department for almost a week ago in the college.

The officials of the education department consoled the students with false promises with no practical action, they said.

The students, who went on strike in the college against the step-motherly attitude of a few teachers, were kept locked in the institute till 3pm though the closing timings of the college were 12:30pm, one of the protesters said.

The commerce department has more strength than the other departments, but the students of this department were deprived of facilities, they said.

One girl said that teachers were even using abusive language with the students who staged strike. One student was beaten up.

The students have demanded of the government to provide a separate building for commerce students.
