PARIS: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Sunday said that with the developed countries having more responsibility in tackling the climate change challenges, Pakistan was ready to contribute in the global efforts.
“Though Pakistan has minimum level of carbon emissions, we will contribute in the global efforts to tackle the climate change issues,” Nawaz said in a brief chat with the media soon after his arrival in Paris to attend the two-week 21st UN Climate Change Conference being opened in the French capital on Monday.
Nawaz will deliver his speech on November 30, opening day of the two-week event, which is scheduled to be attended and addressed by 147 world leaders, including United States President Barack Obama, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping and British Prime Minister David Cameron.
To a question, the prime minister said that Pakistan would not let come any hurdle in its development process.
“We will present our point of view before the world and will also listen to the point of view of other countries,” he added.
The prime minister will also hold meetings with other world leaders on the sidelines of the conference.
Zahid Hamid, the newly appointed Minister of Climate Change will lead the Pakistani team during the two week negotiations, comprising federal and provincial government officials. A dozen or so representatives of leading non-governmental organisations and civil society groups will also participate in the conference.
During his visit to Malta, Premier Nawaz Sharif participated in the 24th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).

The prime minister was seen off at Luqa International Airport by senior officials of the Malta government. Pakistan's Ambassador for Tunisia resident in Malta Zaheer Pervaiz Khan was also present.
During his stay in Malta's capital Valletta, Nawaz participated in CHOGM's multiple sessions on violent extremism and radicalism, climate change, Sustainable Development Goals and migration.
On the sidelines of Commonwealth summit, he held bilateral meetings with British Prime Minister David Cameron, Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, French President Francois Hollande and Prince of Wales Charles.
The prime minister also attended a special event on polio eradication. He was conferred Award of Appreciation by Commonwealth Youth Council for his contribution for the development of Pakistani youth.
Speaking at a session on `Polio Moment' Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said the government has taken a series of steps to save the future generations from the crippling disease.
The prime minister said that Pakistan has made polio eradication a national cause and he is personally leading the National Task Force on Polio Eradication.
He said the government's priority is to reach out to each and every child so that no child remains unvaccinated during the nationwide polio drive.
He expressed satisfaction that Pakistan has been able to significantly reduce the number of polio cases.

He has carried some favorite provincial sight-seers along, just for some selfish political gains. we don have clean drinking water, neither adequate medical facilities.... and our PM is proceeding to Paris for so called "climate change" summit held by UN. his ministers or his cabinet members have no idea for this topic. though a personnel of 40/50 people will accompany him alongside for his various personal keeping.
no wonder, Army is asking them to arrange for "good governance". this is PM's response... claps, the only to keep them happy.

Please be positive. It is an important issue.This is the challenge of 21st Century. Earth is a motherland of all human being who are living on this globe. Some advance countries where industrialization are at peak and as well as those countries whose major share of electricity generation is based on coal like USA, China & India are polluting this globe more compared to Pakistan. Pakistan is basically is an agricultural country and its emission level of greenhouse gases is much lower than majority of the countries of the world and suffering level is very high. It is the duty of advance Countries and those countries who are emitting high level of pollution to compensate Pakistan in case of loss. Nevertheless ,to say again, all have equal rights on this motherland. You can check data of emission of CO2 per capita basis, Pakistan number is lower at the list. It is worth mention here that Hydel generation no emission of CO2, Oil Based electric generation 750gram/KWh. Coal 1500 Gram/KWh.

BTW I am not a PPP or Zardari supporter. All those who salivate on a chance to become PM but have their loot, I mean business, setup in foriegn countries are all corrupt to the core and are only in Pakistan to loot what is left of it.

The world will not take us seriously ,since our cities, and homes hardly get any electricity. In fact we make earth hour every day thanks to awesome policies of load shedding set in by WAPDA and other businesses alike. Secondly, we hardly get any Gas and Petrol, or its too expensive to afford which means we are preserving our environment in our daily lives; thus, proving that we are; aware, compassionate, and protective about our environment and surroundings. I am sure Canada, China, France will be begging us for tips and advice on how to curb the climate change. The only positive outcome I see from this summit is that our Shrek will be able to obtain more loans for Pakistan, which ofcourse will benefit few people in our country, like; our politicians, army personals etc. Thirdly, our politicians will use these funds to invest in renewable resources which will be placed on their lands resulting in complete monopoly with pride while poverty, and illetracy persist.

No country is fighting climate change like Pakistan. While the world including China is closing coal fired power plants we are putting them up. While the world is trying to get off fossil fuel transportation we are building motor/ expressway so we have more fossil fuel driven / black smoke emitting vehicles on the roads made by cutting and removing trees for constructing these roads instead of making railway tracks for bulk cargo movements.
