KOHAT: The police beefed up security around the district jail here after a terrorist threat, and arrested 33 suspected persons from the prison’s vicinity on Tuesday.

The arrested persons also included four illegally staying Afghan nationals. Arms and ammunition were also recovered from those arrested, which included a small machine gun, three pistols and two rifles besides huge quantity of cartridges.

The operation was conducted in Anar Banda, Chamabi, Waziro Kalay areas.

The Afghan nationals were sent to prison for deportation to their home country.

Meanwhile, 16 people, including women and children, were injured in a head-on collision between a passenger coach and a car on the Kohat tunnel link road on Tuesday.

The passenger coach going to Thall collided with the car at a sharp turn. The injured were taken to the Kohat Development Authority’s Divisional Headquarters Hospital where condition of some of them was stated to be serious.

The police registered a case and impounded both the vehicles.
