MIRPURKHAS, Oct 28: The district council, Mirpurkhas, through a resolution, has demanded the restoration of bus and train services between Pakistan and India through Khokhrapar to facilitate the people.

The meeting, chaired by Presiding Officer Mir Anwar Ali Talpur, was held on Monday.

Member Malik Liaquat Ali said the people of Sindh usually went to India through the Lahore route which was long and expensive whereas the Khokhrapar route was not only short but also less expenses.

Criticizing the statements of some politicians, he warned that these statements could damage the unity of the nation.

Major (rtd) Mirza Masroor Beg told the meeting that the Pakistan government had already given its reply to the Indian government regarding the opening of the Khokhrapar border that had been the demand of the people for many years.

The members also called for acknowledging the status of union councils in respect of development works.

The meeting further demanded, through a resolution, the establishment of a special committee for the inspection of development and non-development expenses of district and Taluka councils.

PRICES GO UP: A sharp increase has been witnessed in the prices of basic commodities with the beginning of the month of Ramazan.

Poor people are the worst sufferers of the price hike.

In various towns of the district, the prices of commodities, including fruits and vegetables, remain 20 to 30 per cent higher than the rates prevailing before Ramazan.
