Hafeez refuses to play alongside Amir in BPL

Pakistan's batsman Mohammad Hafeez turned down an offer from Chittagong Vikings to feature in the Bangladesh Premier League as the franchise had already signed tainted fast bowler Mohammad Amir.

Hafeez reportedly turned down an offer of around 10 million Pakistani rupees as the franchise snapped up Amir in a pre-draft deal.

The former captain said he could not 'share a dressing room with a player who tarnished the image of Pakistan.'

“It is not about individuals or any personality clash. It is about the image of Pakistan cricket. I cannot play with any player who has tarnished and brought a bad name to the country,” Hafeez was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.

“This is my personal opinion and this is not just about Pakistani players, it's about all players,” the 35-year-old added.

“I didn't get a direct offer from the BPL team but some agent came up with the offer and I turned it down only because I didn't want to share a dressing room with that player.”

The 35-year-old has publicly aired his feelings about Amir, Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif in the past as well.

Recently, when the Pakistan team was practicing at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore, its former bowling coach Mohammad Akram invited Amir to bowl to Hafeez in the nets but Hafeez flatly refused to face the left-armer because of his tainted past.

Hafeez is also said to be among a group of players in the Pakistan side who are strongly opposed to allowing the spot-fixing trio to play for the national team again in any format.

The BPL has signed around 16 top players from Pakistan and most of these players will go to Bangladesh straight from Dubai after the T20 series against England.

The top players include Shahid Afridi, Saeed Ajmal, Umar Akmal, Kamran Akmal, Wahab Riaz, Yasir Shah.

Amir, the Akmal brothers and Ajmal have all been signed up by Chittagong.

I thought Hafeez towards the end of his career will have matured enough to thing and act out of the box, however, saadly that doesn't appear the case. Pakistan does need a fast bowler in its true sense and it high time that PCB as well as players should welcome back a young talent in the person of Amir to fill that gap which remains vacant since the departure of Imran, Waseem and Wiqar.

I think rather than bringing a player who has served his time and worked hard to come back. Maybe Hafeez can act mature enough to keep his personal opinion aside and rather help the person become a better individual. He was freaking 18-19 at that time. Could have been a lot of pressure on him etc. One can make wrong judgements, he didn't accept to do a robbery, maybe just got carried away with the whole plot. It was wrong and he never backed out from accepting responsibility of it.

Besides, the series he played in England, Pakistan still lost 3-1 anyway to a strong England team. Find other bowlers, and keep filth out or youre just going to set an example to everyone that you can cheat.

He has proper cricket shots, and saved Pakistan from being hammered by England in the third test in their "home series." Any players previously charged did not occur in his playing career so its nothing to do with him.

As far as playing with tainted people I am pretty sure there are lot of people who you are playing with who are corrupt but haven't been caught yet. He was hanging out with captain and another famous fast bowler and was in their influence. He deserve another chance in life to prove himself. This is totally unfair and uncalled for toward this young fast bowler. He has already endured and paid the price for his ill doing. He has served jail term as well. He has also admitted his mistake which in itself speaks volumes of this young star's honesty. For God sake, give him a break. Hafeez is not justified. Hafeez is sending wrong signals and if he thinks he is attracting more attention toward himself by the cricket loving people, he is sadly mistaken.

After the shameful defeat the most unusual playing by all Pakistani players, the matter has been referred to the ICC to investigate if there was any match fixing involved. That would taint every member of the Pakistan's ODI playing side, if even a slightest doubt is there. Hafeez should leave this matter for his seniors and PCB and not to become tainted in insubordination.

Aamir has been cleared by the ICC and PCB. He received his punishment. Let him start fresh infact help him groom being a senior player. I was hurt too. I am upset with the three of them too but we need to look at the interest of Pakistan and give this young man a chance and keep a strict eye on his activities. If found guilty again ban him for life.

This is a cheap shot to gain publicity. Aamir has served his sentence and is allowed by the world body to play cricket. Hafiz is just trying to show that he is a SAINT and have never made mistakes. A player should never be allowed to dictate terms or allowed to meddle in executive decisions. Hafeez should be given a shut up call and to all the others(supposedly)who are refusing to play if Aamir plays. PERIOD.

Comments like those would come form an immature person. Some one please remind Hafeez that it is the decision of PCB and ICC and not Haffez's to decide who is eligible to play international cricket. Aamir has already served his punishment. Why punish him again? Hafeez is a senior player and it is his duty to mentor Aamir and teach him right him from wrong.

Yet, I can share dressing room with Waqar Younis, Mushy and several others who never got caught or punished for their wrong doings in cricket. But I would never play the person, who has served his punishment and is also very embarrassed on what he had committed. That is a pure example of double standards.

Fine, I would sit him out too!! Its not like Hafeez is living the life of model muslim himself. Islam teaches us forgiveness and tolerance. Amir has paid the price, infact much higher price, for what his role in the whole story was. He deserves his chance, If the court of Law has cleared him now, who is hafeez then ?

Do you think all condemned people need to be thrown away, no one should give them jobs etc. based on Hafeez morality. By the way what happens to condemned people in USA? Cricketer in question was condemned and paid the price for his crime, he has all the right to live a normal life, at least this is what happens in civilized societies. I commend Hafeez for standing up to his principles. I don't think a convicted spot fixer should have any involvement in Pakistani cricket team no matter how talented or young that individual is. This is the only way to clean Pakistani cricket to have zero tolerance towards corrupt elements in cricket. For the same reason I don't think Mushtaq, Waqar, Wasim Akram, and all other players whose names were mentioned in Malik Qayyum's report on cricket match fixing should be part of any position in Pakistani cricket.

Mr. Hafeez don't be so rude! Filth flows from the top, and being the teen ager Aamir flowed in the sludge. Chief culprit was the captain and the senior bowler. Can you imagine this happening in Misbah's or Imran's regime. Very hard to undwestand this from a senior player like Hafeez,have Mercy on Aamir. After completing his sentence he has all the right to be included in the team.

If that is what will take for Hafeez to go, I welcome Amir. Hafeez brings so much instability to the team with his "spot fixing styled" run outs and getting caught. Hafeez is destroying the team by getting out in every other two matches cheaply. Puts so much pressure on guys like Rizwan and Sarfraz when they come in with 5 wickets down and still 200 to score. He should be replaced by Haris or Sohaib anyday!

Disfavorung in decision making (razaq) for personal ego does not count as disrespect to the game of cricket. And theoretically you are ok to share dressing room with a bengali cricketer known for sexual assault or other players who brought your country to disrespect by maligning against them in cricket and otherwise does mot constitue as disrespect to you. Probably Hafeez have played or playing cricket in Pakistan with tainted players who knows.. So what is the big deal playing with Aamir? Amir already served his punishment and apologized with the fans so give him one chance. I am sure he can bring much more success for Pakistan team in future because currently no fast bowler is with that caliber. we all have short term memory loss as fans of pakistan cricket. we are guilty of that. many of us feel sorry for the young bowler and want to see him make a comeback and we feel that he has paid his dues. in the strictest sense of the word, hafeez is not wrong. if all players and management in the team had zero tolerance policy towards unethical practices, maybe we wouldnt be the laughing stock of international cricket. and yet i feel for mohammad amir, he should be accepted into mainstream pak cricket and given a second chance.

Since he was named also under corruption case along with our great wasim akram, mushtaq, and many other along with you have played. At Least unlike other cricketers he had guts to accept and apologize to the country. Aamir not only served 5 year of punishment in the form of imprisonment, millions in terms of money for not playing in five years and undergoing mental stress and agony, what more punishment we expect for him, please help him and let him come back

Our pm and everyone high ups are involved in murders, scams etc etc etc and no one has got punishment yet, they are all Honourable and distinguished but not this guy who did a tiny fraud at a very young age and hence since paid the price for his mistakes. It'll be interesting if and when aamir is picked for national duty whether hafeez and likes would choose not to be in the side? What if they are playing for opposing teams and he comes out to bowl at him, whether he'll retire hurt? Either overreacting, not using their heads or trying to keep him out to save their skins. Frankly hafeez is not quality enough to even be part of squads touring England and Australia next year. He's a flat pitch bully... But Aamir will hopefully be deadly. I guess everyone in Pakistan is perfect, no one breaks traffic lights, no one bribes, no one runs away from the scene of accident, no one steals electricity etc etc etc, except only one poor criminal goes by name M. Aamir :)

Punishment serves too purpose. 1--Correction of individual from wrong to right path 2--Clear/reverse him of Bad name gained by doing wrong act If person have achieved both thing, he should be treated as good as not done anything

It is altogether wrong for Hafeez to say such things. he is just a player & should remain that way. Who is he to refuse to play with Amir. This is most un-ethical & childish. Amir has served his punishment moreover he has also shown remorse so there is no justification for such action.

@Abdulla Hussain He is a player on the same team? When this whole spot fixing happened, can you imagine the mental torture other players on the same team went through? Can you imagine how Englands players must have felt? Can you imagine what the world opinion was? By the way, Ahmed Shehzad has also made noises of refusing to play with a cheat in his team. Sheryar Khan says theres more than just that. Someone who cheated the game so many people respect, the spirit of cricket, should be kept out forever.

This is coming from a guy who is banned by ICC for chucking, its laughable. Hafeez's entire bowling career is a fraud and nullity due to his illegal bowling action. His batting is mediocre at best. If he wants to take the moral high ground, he should start with himself and refrain from ever bowling again.

In my opinion this is not fair ideology of Mr. Hafeez because we have many examples in world of cricket like HERCULE GIBBS who proved later that he is good player and its doesn't mean that abandon the player for whole life .....Yes he made mistake and served his punishment also apologize to people of Pakistan for his act and now he is ready to play so we have to give him chance to prove again his place through performance.

You told an untruth that you had been offered a contract which the Franchise Chittagong deny that they ever did with the hope that some other franchise would but no one has done. BTW have you not shared the dressing room with the pitch digger and ball eater. Did that not tarnish the image of Pakistan??

Hafeez, first comment on your running between wickets like a 3 year old. Only two reasons for that kind of running are spot/match fixing or an under developed mind. In either case, you are not qualified to make these statements about Amir. Just feel honored to play with a legend and don't feel the perspective and change topics!! Mr. Hafeez, be a sport, stop acting like a politician. Amir has had his share of regret, disgrace and punishment. I guess there are other cricketers whose bowling actions have been termed illegal or they have been called chuckers, they added to the disgrace after even bowling for years and years. what about players who did ball tempering or for that matter ball chewing, arent they equally cheats? You play with them without hassle. Grow up!!

Perhaps Hafeez feels slighted at not receiving an offer to play in the BPL so came up with the story that he was contacted by an agent but turned down the idea as he did not want to play in the same team as Amir. I am a fan of Hafeez but do not see eye to eye with him on this issue, if what he said is true. Amir was very young, has paid for his folly and it is time we moved on with the game. There are skeletons abound in many people's cupboards so who are we to cast the first stone? If anything, Hafeez should help rehabilitate Amir, which would be a service to Pakistan cricket.

Amir, Asif they were traped and punished. To bring down Pakistan cricket down. What about other players in all other teams. For example Two IPL teams baaned because of coruption, but no players banned how anyone can fix match without player. All big names were playing for these two cricket IPL teams incluing Dhoni, Raine, Ashwin Hafeez can play with all players who delibrately not punished because they from rich countries. If I rembere corerrectly Shane warne was banned for one year for drug he played again for his country. Hafeez please do not start a controversy again I am sure if Amir play He will not do this again and he will put his best effort to become best bowler for Pakistan

Hafeez represents the new pakistan. In this case, Non tolerance for those who out personal greed ahead of an entire brave , proud nations interest. To this day the nation carries the stigma of the ' dirty 3'. British newspapers are now labelling the pathetic loss of pakistan to England as a 'match fix', and referring back to the '3'. To those apologetic to the 3 actions, sorry, but these 3 may have paid for their mistakes, but their guilt and shame is carried by pakistan nation, as they face the world for their actions. Thank you Hafeez for maintaing our pride and those in your team of thought.

Hafeez you are no saint, to consider yourself better than him. He has paid and this undue display of moral and character is manufactured. Do you not tarnish Pakistan's name with an atrocious performance, a performance so bad that people are claiming the match was fixed (for you sake lets hope it was fixed). Now after poor performance , you are trying to win hearts (very successfully) through this display. Public opinion has really moved for you the man with the strong connections.

Hafeez was not selected by BPL teams, and he may have used Amer as an excuse for not appearing in this year's edition.
