Defence Club claim Inter-club title

LAHORE, Oct 26: Defence Club won the first Lahore Inter-Club tennis tournament for doubles, beating Lahore Gymkhana in the final 3-2 at Defence Club on Sunday.

The tournament will be held every year and the club which will win it for the three consecutive time would retain the trophy permanently.

In all, eight teams took part in the inaugural tournament which started on Oct 20. Defence Club and Lahore Gymkhana placed two  teams each while Servis, Model Town,  Chanandin  and Cosmopolitan clubs entered one team apiece.

Iftikhar Rao-Zahid (Defence) bt Fazal Chohan-Shahid Hussain 7-5, 2-6, 6-1; Pervez Bajwa-Dr Naveed (Defence) bt Khurram-Omar Qayyum 6-4, 6-4; Khawaja Tariq Rahim-Raheel (Gymkhana) bt Gen Ashraf- Major Sohail 6-1, 6-2; Furqan and partner (Gymkhana) bt Noman- Omar 6-2, 6-4; Col. Navidullah-Naveed Najam (Defence) bt Shakeel- Manzoor 6-2, 6-2.
