MINGORA: Rain in the plains and snowfall on the mountains brought the temperatures further down in Swat and Shangla on Monday.

Rain coupled with cold winds lashed Mingora, Barikot, Kabal, Matta and Khawzakhela areas, while Malam Jabba and Kalam received heavy snowfall.

According to the local Met office, about six inches of snow had fallen in Kalam and Malam Jabba.

The heavy rain not only created trouble in the ongoing relief activities in the earthquake affected areas, but also caused landslides blocking roads and passages. Heavy rain also triggered flash floods in some areas while water level rose in streams and rivers in Swat.

Meanwhile, with the advent of cold weather sale of warm clothes has increased with people crowding shops selling woolen pullovers, sweaters, mufflers and jackets.
