DERA GHAZI KHAN, Oct 25: The foundation stone laying ceremony of a sports stadium could not be held on Saturday even after 12 years of its sanction.

The then prime minister Nawaz Sharif launched the project in 1991 and sanctioned Rs10 million for the construction. Unfortunately the project could not be initiated. In the last 12 years, one of the Punjab governors also planned to lay the foundation stone but it could not happen.

District Nazim Jamal Khan Leghari had promised in his election campaign for the office that he would accomplish the project. But after three years of his election as Nazim, he could not perform even foundation stone laying ceremony though tenders were advertised in newspapers recently.

In the meanwhile, Oct 25 was fixed for the ceremony and Mr Leghari was to lay the foundation stone but he could not turn up due to preoccupation.

Ironically an inquiry has been conducted ‘into misuse of funds’ last year though the project has not yet been officially launched.
