RAWALPINDI: A 45-year-old woman was shot dead allegedly by a friend of her son on Monday.

In retaliation, the woman’s son killed the young man with the latter’s pistol, police said.

The incident occurred at a house in the Loco Shed Colony, Ratta Amral.

Police said Waqas Ahmed, 27, entered the house by scaling the wall and asked Rukhsana to let her son Talha Shabbir, 17, to go with him. Police said Waqas and Talha were friends.

However, Ms Rukhsana refused on suspicions that Waqas would molest her son.

Initial police investigations show that Talha’s father had already complained to Waqas’s parents about his attitude with his son.

When Waqas tried to forcibly take Talha away, his mother resisted, prompting the intruder to pull out a pistol and shoot her son. However, when the woman tried to save her son, the bullet hit her. Seeing his mother injured, Talha snatched the weapon from Waqas and shot him dead.

The injured woman was taken to the District Headquarters Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

When contacted, Sub-Inspector (SI) Zafar Iqbal Butt told Dawn that they had launched an investigation into the double murder case.

He said Talha was yet to be arrested as he escaped from the house after the incident.
