RAWALPINDI, Oct 25: The district government will open 15 new computer literacy centres for women next month.

This was stated by district Nazim Tariq Kiani while inaugurating a women computer literacy centre at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Bagh Sardaran, here on Saturday.

He said the district government had already established 35 computer literacy centres in girls schools on the recommendations of women councillors of their respective areas.

Mr Kiani said every computer centre would be run on a self- reliance basis under a three-member committee comprising women councillors of the respective areas, headmistress of schools and a member of the district government.

The Nazim said computers had been purchased from the funds of women councillors.

The district government, he added, had purchased furniture amounting to Rs40.5 million, which would be provided to schools in phases in various tehsils.

He directed the officials concerned to construct a boundary wall at the girls school at a cost of Rs200,000. Mr Kiani also announced to provide equipment to the new science laboratory of the school.

He said the recruitment process of about 1,000 teachers was in the final stage aimed to reduce shortage of staff in government schools. He said the recruitment would be made on merit.—APP
