BAHAWALPUR: Up to 200 laptops stored in the auditorium of the Islamia University, Bahawalpur, were burnt to ashes on Thursday when a fire erupted there midday.

A university press release said the laptops had been stored there since 2011 and were not for students.

The press release said that according to a preliminary technical report, the capacitors of some laptops’ batteries burst and caused the fire.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Qaisar Mushtaq rushed to the fire scene. The firefighters of Rescue 1122 extinguished the fire. Dr Mushtaq constituted an inquiry committee to probe into the fire.

FOUND KILLED: A woman was found killed in her house in Hasilpur Mandi on Thursday, according to police sources.

The in-laws alleged that Razia, a mother of four, committed suicide by hanging herself with a ceiling fan in the house in the absence of her husband Malik Din Muhammad, who was at his shop. On the contrary, Razia’s family alleged she was killed by her husband for he wanted to contract a second marriage.

The Hasilpur police arrested Din and shifted the body to Hasilpur Tehsil Headquarters Hospital for a postmortem examination.
