KARACHI: Pakistan’s Mohammad Nooh Dastagir Butt clinched two gold medals and one silver in 105-plus kg categories at the Commonwealth Youth, Junior and Senior Weightlifting Championships in Pune, India.

According to the reports made available here, teenaged Nooh lifted 152kg in snatch and 205kg in clean and jerk to create five new Commonwealth Youth records.

Nooh first lifted 145kg in snatch and then lifted 152kg in second attempt. His both attempts went into the tournament’s record books. In clean and jerk event, Nooh attempted for record breaking 190kg, which he achieved only to overshadow it in his second attempt by lifting a whopping 205kg to better his record.

“When snatch and clean and jerk weights are combined, then by virtue of it Nooh made another record of lifting 357kg in the youth event,” a spokesman of the Pakistan Weightlifting Federation (PWLF) said.

“It is a national record for 17-year-old Nooh to have participated in all three age categories of the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships and clinched two gold medals and a silver,” he added.
