LONDON: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Saturday that sooner or later India would have to consider the four-point peace proposal he presented at the United Nations General Assembly.
Talking to journalists at the airport here before leaving for Pakistan, the prime minister said he had raised all relevant issues in his speech at the UN assembly and given concrete proposals for their resolution so as to reduce tensions between the two countries.
He said that proxy war against Pakistan from across the border should come to an end.
Mr Sharif said Pakistan had the evidence of involvement of Indian spy agency RAW in subversive activities and had shared it with the United Nations. He was confident that the dossiers Pakistan handed over to the UN would have considerable impact.
In reply to a question, he said the international community was listening to Pakistan’s stance on Kashmir and peace could not be achieved by hurling allegations.
He said tension in the region had affected the development process and there was no other method to resolve the outstanding issues except dialogue.
Mr Sharif said both Pakistan and India needed to adopt a balanced approach towards resolution of the issues. The sooner the dialogue process started the better it would be for the two countries.

The problem is that Pakistan has to understand that India's stance will never be the same. India and Pakistan has in the recent years come close on two occasions and both the times India. Once in 1998-99 when Lahore Declaration happened. Which was derailed by Kargil War. Second was the building of trust and bilateral ties during 2004-2008 which saw a lot of improvement but then 26/11 happened and the only person caught alive was Kasab who hailed from Pakistan. These two incidents have hardened India's stance. Pakistan will needs to understand that it cannot play hardball with India anymore. Needs to make more soft approaches. I will say that Nawaz Shariff did that when he visited Modi's swearing in only to see very luke warm response from Modi. This is was a blunder by India but Pakistan also made a mistake by talking to separatists residing in India. India was right in saying that the negotiations have to be made between India and Pakistan. These separatists have no role.

Sir, principally I agree with you. There should be peace in this region and we should stop proxy war against each other. You asked India/RAW to stop interfering in pakistan but you have not mentioned about non state actors who are sitting inside pakistan and doing harm to India. Rememeber, it is always two way negotiataion. If you want peace for your country, please ensure peace for other country as well.

Apparently the only reason Pakistan is obsessed with Kashmir's situation is firstly, due to its ego-issue with India and secondly, Kashmir valley is Muslim-dominated. Out of these two, ego is a bigger problem. If it was 'Muslim' issue, one would hear Pakistan shed its 'crocodile tears' equally vociferously on Muslim world oppression and atrocities on Muslim populations by their own kind (fellow Muslims) rulers. Has anyone heard it? Afghanistan, Syria, South Turkey, Yemen, Iraq...for reference. Are these populations any lesser Muslims that do not deserve living in peace and not like refugees in non-Muslim countries? Please resolve that unfinished agenda first to establish even an iota of credibility in advocating on behalf of Kashmiris. India should continue to call off Pakistan's bluff

NS held the dossier back to try to engage India bilaterally which they always whine about but India again showed insincerity. So that left NS no choice but to show the dossier privately to Intl partners. Indians mistakingly think that there is no evidence but there is, he was being diplomatic. At this time I think Modi has shown his true colours and intentions. To keep PK weak and forbid it from progressing.

Looking at the balance sheet and strategies by both countries, it is unlikely that a peaceful solution can be derived in near future. India has learnt to ignore Pakistan and it will continue to do so. Considering the intensity of animosity developing in political arena on both sides it is also unlikely that there will be peace in the region even if the K issue is solved.

India will never accept going back to the UN which will be against the Shimla agreement. Pakistan cannot have agreements and then keep going back and forward to wriggle out.Discussion has to be bilateral and devoid of the shadow of terror.The UN and the world is not interested in the dispute as they are more involved with economics where India has a more important role to play. Pakistan is at a great disadvantage there. The support it got during the cold war is no longer available and Pakistan has to fight its battle alone.

@Hope Pakistan is no hurdle. india is going ahead with improved bilateral relations with its other neighbours like Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. It has free trade with all these countries which has improved their economy and given them free access to a big Indian market and technology.Bangladesh currency has overtaken that of Pakistan and they are prospering with friendship with India.

NS Sir, true, Balanced approach by both India and Pakistan is required.
First both should be sensitive to each others stance.
1) For example, India should be sincere in resolving Kashmir issue. Should be soft to Pakistan. Share a good relationship with Pak. Pak/India should work together for Afgan issue. Should have cricketing ties.
2) Pakistan should be behave well. Why to upset India by talking to Kasmir separatists. India takes it as an offence. Can not Pakistan understand this much. If you want to talk to Kashmir, talk to elected govt of Kashmir.
If Pakistan knowingly doing this, then do not blame India for cancellation of talk, rather an introspection is the need of time for Pak and its intellectuals.

Sincerity is lacking in resolving the issues. Pakistan should have accepted Ufa agreement between Modi and Nawaz to discuss terrorism only for now. That would have created goodwill and world opinion in favor of Pakistan. That would have also broken the ice so to speak. Who knows what would have happened next. There is no hard line or soft line. Modi is a doer. He would make things happen so development could happen in South Asia on his watch. Nawaz wants a resolution too but he will need to work with the boys. There is no such constraints with Modi.

Pakistan has provided a 4 point proposal which in itself is a reply to Indian one point proposal. Here is how. Let's assume India is right and Pakistan is sending terrorists across the LoC. Pakistan has proposed to demilitarise Kashmir and LoC and have UN observe the LoC. shouldn't India welcome this as a reply to their one point agenda UNLESS of course the motive is something sinister which is exactly why India right away rejected all 4 points. You See India like Israel, both illegal occupiers, always find an excuse never to accept UN interference because this will expose their lies openly hence rubbishing their claim. This is the main reason why India gets all nervous about UN.
BTW ... Maoists have killed 100 times more Indians than the so called terrorists from Pakistan. Furthermore there are 1000's of unmarked graves in IO Kashmir discovered by HRW so not sure which terrorism Sushma Swaraj is referring to.

Nawaz Sharif is sincere from the very start of his current term to repair his relations with the neighbouring country. But due to certain developments that happened, he gradually lost his grip on foreign policy viz- a- viz India. Presently the Army has restored its image and became very popular whereas the politicians have lost the confidence of the people. Actually the real power of running the country's affairs is in the hands of the Army. The army will never allow restoration of relation with arch enemy India unless the core issue of Kashmir is resolved.

India will not come to the table if we keep trying to shame them in international fora (OIC, UNO etc) with the delivery of so called dossiers containing 'irrefutable proof' about Indian involvement of in Pakistani internals affairs. What is needed is face to face talk with the Indians and talking to Hurriet leaders will not help our case as they have very little following in Indian Kashmir.

Fact : we don't need to hurry, to get Kashmir issue resolved, why?
\n 1: India is on development path as per current scenario just need need focused on that, K can discussed side by side but don need to resolve it.
\n 2: World or specially critics will say bad. Do need to worry.
\n 3: Need to progress to that level that Indian Kashmir also get rich like switzerland.
\n 4: Then ask UN to tak vote of Kashmir citizens of all side.
Can take 50-200 years but as soon India is comfortable ,no need to hurry, Pak army existence and Indian requirements to buy arms is all depend on that, at last there Is no other way, India can give money.

UN is not like our Pakistani awam whom our army says "we have killed 10, 20, ....100 suspected terrorists and all the terrorists involved in peshawar attack are eleminated" no proofs, no critics entertained. We failed to understand the meaning of proofs? UN is not an army court in Pakistan where a brigadier declares the punishment and an army cheif approved the hangings. We made a mockery of ourselves at UN.

The Pakistani military supports the agenda of keeping tensions live at the border so that their grip on Pakistani politicians and populace is always right. Many in Pakistan would prefer a different relationship with India and the same is true about Indians. Unfortunately neither country benefits without a dispute as it helps concentrate power.the louder someone speaks about the issue the longer they retain power.if media is freely accessible and people are allowed to enquire about their past and other views on what is taught to them for years one would come to the conclusion that they are the same people. Arab obsession and identity dilution has led to this land of distorted history and intolerance. Kashmiris are intellectually very capable and don't share the same problems that plaque Pakistan.They just happen to live in a rough neighborhood where it is difficult to survive independently and not possible to be please both neighbors.

@Malik - Its a two way process.. tell your Army to stop supporting the proxies and using them as strategic assests and probably india will follow suit... i am not sure india uses RAW for any activities inside pakistan, but if it does, i am all good for it... we need to have a balance and counter action for every strategies our enemy engages in...

please understand ground realities in a dispassionate manner. India today is in position of strength - economically, politically, diplomatically and militarily. Economically because they are the fastest growing economy in the world, Politically because they have a govt with absolute majority, diplomatically because its image in global politics (G4, BRICS, UNSC etc.) and militarily because of latest modernization of armed forces and a $50Bn annual budget and 6th largest $ reserve. You can only negotiate any deal in your favour from a position of strength, not from position of weakness. Therefore the hope that India will get back to table on your conditions is only wishful thinking on your part. Sad for Pakistani friends but true. Things may change 20 years down the line, but as of today this is what it is...

@asif I You said it and both sides should appreciate the feelings from a average citizen. However the biggest problem id the proxy war played by state and non-state actors. Once this issue dies down all other issues will be easy to discuss in a peaceful environment. This is easy said than done, and unless this proxy war ends both countries will continue with Pakistan the biggest loser.

Why not both Prime Ministers deal with issues one by one i.e. most important, first and lesser important later? Why did they backed out from discussing terror first, followed by trade and people to people contact, tourism, making borders free, etc? The only plausible solution is making the LOC the permanent border. But the boys will never accept it and they used the crazy Imran to neuter NS who tried and failed for the second time to make peace. @Ajaya K Dutt Funny you bring up 1971 when India used non-state actors back yhen too to create disturbances in East-Pakistan. But this is not 1971. Pakistan is much much stronger today then it has ever been. With two front war being ruled out Pakistan will focus all her military, air, naval power backed up by nuclear weapons to counter any Indian illegal crossing of the international border from the east. There will be no India left after the nuclear clouds clears.
This is why your government and military chickened out last time Indian military was deployed on Pakistan borders and the world saw India for what it was: a local entity, a second grade power, whose power projection ends at Wagah border. This why you will never get a UNSC seat: it will be vetoed down by Pakistan backed China and the 1/3rd nations UN of Muslim countries.
Meanwhile, have fun pretending to a universal power and lobbying Micronesia for a UNSC seat.

Why does india want people here to be prosecuted without any hard evidence while they don't even want to move forward on samjhota express which occured a long before 26/11? Even if we assume that 26/11 is carried out by Pakistanies, why cry about 164 people but do not consider those thousends which got killed due to RAW involvement in FATA, Balochistan, Karachi and specially the military school in Peshawer where 140 children were shot to death by those who get their funds and weapons from India. Pakistan has provided har evidence of indian involvement to Manmohan and now to UNO. Modi may for now be flying high on the American horses but soon will he recognize that without peace with Pakistan, indian dream is going to be more like a nightmare.

@Zak and Pakistan can better afford the economic drain and brand image . It costs Pakistan literally more than 20% of its direct and indirect military expense to defend the Kashmir it has under its control. Not to mention the enormous loss of not being able to trade with the worlds fastest growing economy . The CPEC corridor will dwarf in comparison to a India Pakistan trade potential.sorry to inform you but it's Pakistan that cannot pay for the status quo and war is even costlier.

Does anyone really listen to UN speeches by various heads of countries and their ministers other than speeches of important countries like US, Russia who have power to alter world politics? Does anyone remember what PM of Pakistan or India told 5 years back? Any visible impact of those speeches? It all eyewash....free trip to US on taxpayer's expense.
