LAHORE, Oct 19: ARD President Makhdoom Javed Hashmi says the Election Commission should publish details of assets submitted by political leaders.

Talking to reporters at the walima ceremony of PML-N MNA Pervaiz Malik’s son on Sunday night, he said the process could be started with the publication of details of his own (Hashmi’s) assets.

Thereafter, assets of other important leaders like Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Qazi Husain Ahmed, Imran Khan and others should be handed to the media.

The ARD chief said once all politicians were covered, Gen Musharraf’s assets should also be made public.

Hashmi, who is also acting president of the PML-N, regretted that the government had not invited his party leaders to the reception for Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah. The rulers, he alleged, had not risen above their narrow-mindedness.

The Saudi dignitary, he said, was the guest of the entire nation and the rulers should not have ignored opposition leaders while organizing a reception for him.

Still, he said, the PML-N had directed its party workers to accord a warm welcome to the Saudi leader, who flew back to the kingdom on Sunday evening.

He thanked the PPP leadership for staying away from the reception, despite being invited, as a mark of solidarity with the PML-N.

About the registration of a case against a police constable for removing tinted glass from a military official’s vehicle in compliance with the law, Hashmi said he was saddened by the fact that the rulers practised two laws at the same time. He said the rulers had a separate law for themselves and another for their ‘subjects’.

He said the clarification given by the ISPR on the subject was not satisying.

A number of political leaders, judges, bureaucrats attended the walima ceremony.
