LARKANA: Three siblings — two sisters and their brother — died and their mother and grandmother fell unconscious in their bedroom when strong fumes of pesticide coming from the adjacent room caused extreme suffocation in their house in the Kamboh locality of Shahdadkot town on Monday.

The children, Ayesha, 4, Alisha, 3, and 11-month-old Ayyan Ali, were sleeping in the bedroom along with their mother and grandmother. In the adjacent room, a stockpile of wheat was kept and the door was tightly closed after fumigation using pesticide to save wheat from weevils was carried out inside. Due to a reason yet to be known, the door slid open and the strong fumes found their way into the bedroom.

The fumes suffocated Ayyan Ali to death and caused the other family members to fall unconscious. The victims were rushed to the Chandka Medical College Hospital in Larkana where Ayesha and Alisha also died during treatment. However, doctors managed to save the lives of the two women.

Officials at the A-Section police station said that further investigation into the incident was under way. Yakoob Kamboh, the father of the children, has been informed of the tragedy in Saudi Arabia, where he works, according to the victims’ relatives.

BADIN: A three-year-old boy, Narain Bheel, died after drinking pesticide in Chaudhry Mohib village near Tando Bago town on Monday .

His parents said the toddler took the pesticide for some syrup and soon after drinking it, he fell unconscious. They said they took him to the Tando Bago Taluka Hospital but doctors referred him to the Badin Civil Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
