IAEA praises Pakistan's nuclear security record

ISLAMABAD: Director General (DG) International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Yukiya Amano praised Pakistan’s impressive nuclear security record spanning over four decades of nuclear power plant operation.
In a meeting with Pakistani Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry in New York on the sidelines of the 70th United Nations General Assembly, Amano said the IAEA stood ready to help Pakistan and other countries achieve Sustainable Development GoalsSustainable Development Goals.
The DG IAEA said the organisation had an important role to play in the implementation of the Post-2015 Development Agenda.
He appreciated the excellent cooperation between Pakistan and the IAEA, adding that IAEA’s Technical Cooperation Programme with Pakistan was one of its largest in the world.
The DG IAEA praised Pakistan’s impressive nuclear security record over more than four decades of operating nuclear power plants and expressed satisfaction at the implementation of IAEA safeguards measures by Pakistan
Thanking Amano for the mutually beneficial cooperation Pakistan enjoyed with IAEA as one its founding members since 1957, the Aizaz said that Pakistan deeply valued the role played by IAEA in the development of peaceful uses of nuclear technology.
He added that Pakistan attached the highest priority to nuclear safety and security as a national responsibility and that all of Pakistan’s nuclear power plants and research reactors were under IAEA safeguards, adding that Pakistan was fully meeting its obligations in this regard.
Established in 1957, the IAEA works to promote the safe, secure and peaceful use of nuclear technologies. Pakistan actively participates in the policy discussions and activities of the IAEA and has maintained a regular presence on its Board of Governors.

India is doing nefarious campaign to get Pakistan's atomic program rolled back... and see what IAEA said... on the sidelines, just to remind India have suffered 11 major nuclear accidents, luckily no one died. its we and other part of world who must be careful about India's inability to keep their nuclear "thing" in check not Pakistan's...

@A. Ali Do you always want Indian perspective ? Just google AQ Khan and you will know about Pakistan's nuclear security record.Pakistan needs some motivation from IAEA otherwise Pakistan won't be careful and IAEA won't be speaking same language when you will see effect of China made nuclear plants near Karachi which your civil society is protesting against but their voice has been stifled.

@A. Ali When elephant trolls many other beings get intimidated. The elephant meanwhile is unaware of all this and continues. The elephant has the longest life of others in the jungle.
The elephant is generally gentle and hyenas are not. The hyenas have to resort to rabble rousing to get the elephant intimidated.
The game goes on and the elephant comes across many smaller beings but it leta everyone live. It knows that intimidation is mostly built in minds and it chooses not to respond to aggression since aggression has a short life.

Once again it is proves that Pakistan is a responsible nation. Everybody believes in Pakistan. Even US and China help Pakistan.
So many countries help Pakistan with aid and development packages. It's time for Pakistan to lead from the front. It is a growing power and everybody needs to acknowledge this.

@A. Ali - Your country has just one or two nuclear plantsm which are largely based on stolen technology from west and blue-prints gifted by China, as admitted by the infamous AQ Khan himself.
Contrary to that, India has dozens of nuclear plants involved in diverse types of research activities including fusion, fission, uses of thorium/ plutonium/ uranium, fast breeder reactors, heavy water, etc., all these mostly indigenous efforts due to strict sanctions after May 1974 nuclear tests. In this scenario, a few hiccups in terms of minor accidents (in which nobody had lost lives so far) are acceptable.
Hence there can be absolutely no comparison between the two countries. Moreover, this article is solely about Pakistan, why you are unable to curb your resistible tendencies to drag India in every single issue of yours? You need to give up your hypnotic obsession with India to enable your country to develop.

@Azeez There are actually seven nuclear plants if you take into account the non civilian also. Two coming up next year Chashma III and IV, it will make it nine.
Two more Kanupp II&III, 1100x2 are on fast track construction, it will be eleven in total.
Here I am not mentioning three nuclear and two experimental neutron sources located in the PINSTECH Laboratory, Nilore, Islamabad, Pakistan. The PARR Reactor is a graphite-moderated, Gas Cooled, nuclear reactor.

@A Shah India's "lion's Share" of grants hasnt been able to stop Pakistan from becoming a better, stronger, nuclear power then India. I think it is time for indians to realize that "Size" not always matters in international politics. Pakistan had mis-fortune of 50 years of dictator rule and even after that we are not that far behind of "The Great Hindu India" in many fields. Let Pakistan have a sustained democratic rule of atleast 15 years and you will see the results your self. I said it again Unlike India, Pakistan is not fighting with her own people. We are clearing our house from the foreign entities where as India has lot to concern about her internal stability. You dont need half a million armed forces to control people if people of the land are with you. India should learn from that.

@A. Ali Pak has only 4 Nuclear Units and India has 21 Units..There were total 5 issues in India(last incident in 2002) and 1 in Pak(in 2011). Check Wikipedia. It is good that there are no major incidents happened in both countries.

@Azeez If you add the civilian and non civilian its is about seven. In addition, there are three small reactors at the research center at PINSTECH as well. Two more coming up next year at Chashma.

Pakistan is far advanced in nuke and missile tech with plenty of stuff available. It will make no difference if for any reason Pakistan has to put a halt to increasing its numbers. In fact having achieved nuclear capability it should now shift focus to other areas such as restarting space research from where it was put in the freeze.Important thing would be to only allocate minimum possible resources on it while lifting other areas of progress such as health, education etc.
